By analyzing a total of 360 reports of the National Science Contest winners from 2017 to 2021, this study attempted to examine the characteristics of the inquiry activities of the National Science Contest winners. Through this, an analysis framework was first developed through the analysis of previous studies and the advice of four experts to understand the characteristics of scientific inquiry of the winners of the National Science Contest. The analysis framework was divided into a total of 14 subcategories under three major categories: 'inquiry method', 'how to obtain inquiry data', and 'expression (explained) style of inquiry results'. Using the later developed analysis framework, students' inquiry methods and processes that appear in the report of the National Science Contest were analyzed, and the aspects were described according to 'school level' and 'subdivision' for each category of the analysis framework. As a result of the analysis, the frequency of categories was distributed in various ways according to the school level and division. However, the distribution of frequency and small number does not indicate the direction of the award, but indicates that students present various inquiry results using various inquiry data in various inquiry methods for research questions. In addition, through this study, it is necessary to explain the appropriateness of research methods and the validity of research design in students' scientific inquiry reports, and to emphasize the importance of scientific inquiry activities at each school level, especially at the middle school level.

본 연구는 2017년부터 2021년까지의 전국과학전람 회 수상작 총 360건에 대한 보고서를 분석하여, 전국 과학전람회 수상작들의 탐구 활동 특징을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 통해 먼저 전국과학전람회 수상작들의 과학 탐구 특징을 이해하기 위한 분석틀을 기존의 선 행연구 분석과 4명의 전문가 자문을 통해 개발하였다. 분석틀은 ‘탐구 방법’, ‘탐구 자료의 획득 방법’, ‘탐구 결과의 표현(설명) 양식’이라는 3가지 대범주하에 총 14가지의 세부 범주를 두었다. 이후 개발된 분석틀을 이용하여 전국과학전람회 보고서 속에서 나타나는 학 생의 탐구 방법과 과정을 분석하였으며, 분석틀의 범 주별로 ‘학교급’, ‘분과’에 따라 그 양상을 기술하였다. 분석 결과, 학교급과 분과에 따라 범주들의 빈도가 다 양하게 분포하였다. 하지만 빈도의 많고 적음의 분포 는 수상에 대한 방향성을 지시하는 것이 아닌, 연구 질 문에 대해 학생들이 다양한 탐구 방법으로, 다양한 탐 구 자료를 활용하여, 다양한 탐구 결과를 제시하고 있 음을 나타낸다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 학생들의 과학 탐 구 보고서 속 연구 방법의 적절성, 연구 설계의 타당성 에 대한 설명이 필요하며 각 학교급, 특히 중학교급에 서 과학 탐구 활동의 중요성을 강조하고자 한다.
