This paper purports to investigate how Japan's “personal history (自分史)” was created. I analyze the writings of Daikichi Irokawa (色川大吉), the founder of “personal history” in Japan, to find his research perspective and methodology. Through this, I explore the formation process of Irokawa's “personal history.” After Japan lost the war in 1945, Irokawa became strongly aware of the need for research on humans and individuals in history through historical investigations and research results. Irokawa's research methodology starts from the subject of historical individuals active who are active in the real world, and seeks social and historical contacts to understand individuals and their thoughts. In research, “human excavation” describes individuals in history, expresses the meaning of their lives, and also aims for “human recovery.” Irokawa's “personal history” is based on the perspective of popular history and his own experiences. The central element of his personal history is the connection with the whole history.

본 논문의 목적은 일본의 ｢自分史(이하 자기역사로 표기)｣가 어떻게 만들어졌는가를 규명 하는 것이다. ｢자기역사｣의 제창자 이로카와 다이키치(色川大吉)는 1964년 『明治精神史』, 1968년 『増補明治精神史』, 1973년 『新編 明治精神史』, 그리고 1975년 『ある昭和史–自分史の 試み–』의 저술의 연구 관점과 방법론을 분석하여 이로카와 ｢자기역사｣의 형성과정을 살펴본 다. 이로카와는 1945년 패전이후 역사 조사와 연구성과를 통해 역사학에서 인간, 개인에 대한 연구의 필요성을 강하게 인식하였다. 이로카와의 연구방법은 현실에서 활동하고 있는 역 사적 개인의 주체에서 출발하여, 사회적, 역사적 접점을 찾고, 그것을 통해서 개인과 그 사상 을 파악한다는 구조이다. 연구에서 ｢인간발굴｣은 개인을 역사속에서 서술하여 개인의 삶의 의미를 드러내고, ｢인간의 회복｣을 꾀하는 것이기도 하다. 이로카와의 「자기역사」는 민중사의 관점과 자기자신의 체험에 기반하고 있다. 자기역사는 전체사와의 관련성을 중심적인 요소로 설정하였다.
