Of the 913 museums nationwide in 2023, 389 are public museums, accounting for about 42.6%. The proportion of public museums in Korea's museum environment is by no means small. Therefore, this paper aims to find out what conditions public museums in Jeonbuk are in by comparing and analyzing various museum statistics, and I would like to suggest ways to improve related problems. First, if you compare seven metropolitan local governments, including Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam, which have similar financial and cultural infrastructure conditions among 17 metropolitan cities nationwide. Not only does it have the smallest number of museums along with Chungbuk, but it also has the smallest number of museums per million people, along with Gyeongnam, and the number of museums per basic local government is the smallest along with Jeonnam. In addition, it was confirmed that the number of curatorial staff per museum is in the middle and the ratio of curatorial staff is in the lower part, showing that the overall museum construction conditions in the Jeonbuk region are inferior to other regions. In terms of the current status and conditions of 25 public museums in Jeollabuk-do, Jeonbuk, along with Chungbuk, was the smallest in the number of public museums. and The number of curatorial staff per museum and the ratio of curatorial staff are also found to be in the middle and lower ranks, and the poor current status of curatorial staff in public museums in Jeonbuk region can be confirmed. However, even under such poor operating conditions, the certification rate of the public museum evaluation and certification system is relatively excellent, which is also noteworthy. Under these conditions, the most important task for the development of public museums in Jeonbuk region is the expansion of curatorial staff. The development of public museums can only be achieved by expanding curatorial staff who play a key role in the museum, such as collection, preservation, research, exhibition, and education. In order to facilitate this role, there should be an average of three curatorial staff per public museum. In particular, it is considered essential to expand the number of curatorial staff in the field of education, which has recently been emphasized in the role of museums.

2023년 전국 913개의 박물관 중 공립박물관은 389개관으로 약 42.6%를 차지하 고 있어 우리나라 박물관 환경에서 공립박물관이 차지하는 비중은 결코 작지 않다. 이에 본 고에서는 다양한 박물관 현황지표에 대한 비교·분석을 통해 전북지역 공 립박물관들이 어떠한 여건에 놓여있는지 파악해보고, 관련 문제점을 개선하기 위 한 방안을 제언하고자 한다. 먼저 전국 17개 광역시도 중 재정 및 문화기반여건이 비슷한 강원, 충북, 충남, 전북, 전남, 경북, 경남 등 7개 광역지자체와 전북지역 박물관을 비교해 보면, 충북 지역과 함께 가장 적은 박물관을 보유하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 인구 백만명당 박물관 수에서도 경남지역과 함께 가장 적은 것으로 나타났으며, 기초지자체당 박물관 수 도 전남지역과 함께 가장 적은 지역으로 파악되었다. 또한 1개관당 학예직원수는 중 위권, 학예직원 비율은 하위권에 위치하고 있음도 확인되면서 전북지역의 전반적인 박물관 건립여건이 타 지역에 비해 열악한 환경이라는 것을 보여주고 있는 것이다. 이어 전북지역 25개 공립박물관의 현황과 여건에서도 공립박물관 수에서 충북 과 함께 전북이 가장 적은 것으로 나타났으며, 1관당 학예직원 수와 학예직원 비율 역시 모두 중하위권에 속하는 것으로 파악되며, 전북지역 공립박물관의 열악한 학 예인력 현황을 확인할 수 있다. 다만 이러한 열악한 운영여건에서도 공립박물관 평 가인증제 인증률에서는 상대적으로 우수한 인증률을 보이고 있어 주목되기도 한다. 이러한 여건 속에서 전북지역 공립박물관의 발전을 위한 과제로 무엇보다 중요 한 것은 바로 학예직원의 확충이라 할 수 있다. 자료의 수집, 보존, 연구, 전시, 교 육 등 박물관의 핵심역할 수행하는 학예직원이 확충되어야만 공립박물관의 발전이 있을 수 있다. 또한 이러한 역할수행을 원활히 하기 위해 공립박물관 1관당 평균 3명의 학예직원이 있어야 하며, 특히 최근 박물관의 역할에서 강조되고 있는 교육 분야의 학예직원 확충은 꼭 필요하다고 여겨진다.
