This study investigates the contrasting views on life and death as presented by Hui Shi’s concept of “birth and death” and Zhuangzi’s teachings on the same topic. By analyzing the meaning of the conjunction suiran(雖然) in Zhuangzi's texts, traditionally interpreted as indicating contradiction, this paper proposes a reinterpretation that suggests suiran can be understood as a connective term that bridges Hui Shi and Zhuangzi’s philosophies.
