I Based on the Korean novel of the same title by Korean-American author Min Jin Lee, the Apple TV+ original OTT series portrays the life and identity of Sunja, a protagonist who immigrates from Yeongdo, Busan, to Osaka, Japan during the Japanese colonial period. Hamid Naficy's theory of accented cinema posits that the identity of diasporic filmmakers imbues their works with a distinctive accent, termed ‘an Accented Cinema’. This study examines two primary characteristics of accented cinema that are predominantly employed in Pachinko, and investigates the influence of filmmakers with diasporic identities linked to exile, expulsion, and post-colonial nationality on their works. It analyzes how Sunja's narrative of migration to Japan in is structured similarly to the American immigrant narrative, focusing on the characteristic of multifocality in accented cinema. Furthermore, the study explores how the Christian symbols depicted in are connected to the diasporic identity of the founding of the United States, maintaining cultural hybridity and sustaining narrative tension. By examining , the study highlights how a work with a distinctive accent, rarely explored in Korean cinema, can appeal to a diverse audience, and delves into the narrative strategies of the OTTseries that actively employ the characteristics of accented cinema.
