This paper is the result of a study on the narrative composition method of . I explored what kind of narrative structure this work adopts by utilizing events, time, characters, and space, and how it uses expressive techniques and reveals its message. The results of the research are summarized as follows. First, in , the timeline is established through subtitles displayed in monthly units over a total of five episodes. And the sequences distributed based on this correspond to the progress of the four-stage plot. However, while the provocative subject of ‘child switching’ becomes the main event and takes center stage in the plot, the sub-events are arranged in parallel. Additionally, the subtitles in the movie are displayed differently based on the development of events and the cyclical sense of time. As a result, the story's specificity, uniqueness, logical causality, and dramatic effect are reduced, but its universality and possibility of connection with reality are enhanced. On the one hand, in , the plot seems to revolve around the main character Ryota, but the surrounding characters are balanced. And through the relationships between Ryota and the surrounding characters, the father's representation and the meaning of family are presented. In addition, the spaces in the movie are created to match the character-type setting. In particular, rather than contrasting the space of Ryota's family with the space of Yudai's family, the area of s pace is expanded through scenes such as Ryota driving a car. And through this, the possibility of coexistence and symbiosis is suggested. Furthermore, spaces with natural properties appear in the movie. Through this, the message is conveyed that there are various families in the world and that their members need time to become a true family.

본 논문은 <그렇게 아버지가 된다>의 서사 구성 방식에 관한 연구의 결과물이 다. 이를 위해 연구자는 이 영화가 사건과 시간, 인물 및 공간을 활용하여 어떠한 서사 구조를 취하는지, 그리고 이를 통해 나름의 표현 기법을 어떻게 구사하고 주된 메시지를 어떻게 드러내는지를 작품론의 차원에서 종합적으로 살펴보았다. <그렇게 아버지가 된다>에서는 총 5회에 걸쳐 월 단위로 표기된 자막 화면들을 통해 시간대가 구축되어 있는데, 이를 기준으로 배분된 시퀀스들은 크게 4단계의 이야기 진행 과정과 조응하기도 한다. 그러나 영화에서는 ‘아이 바뀜’이라는 자극 적 소재가 대사건이 되어 이야기의 중심을 차지하면서도 하위의 사건들은 병렬적 으로 배열되어 있다. 더불어 영화 속 자막은 이러한 사건 전개 양상 및 순환적 시간 감각을 토대로 각기 다르게 표시된다. 이로 인해 이야기의 구체성과 고유성, 논리적 인과성 및 극적 효과는 상쇄되는 대신에 그 보편성이 강화되고 현실과의 연결 가능성이 타진된다. 한편, <그렇게 아버지가 된다>에서는 주인공 료타를 중 심으로 이야기가 진행되는 듯 보이지만 그가 6년간 키워 온 게이타의 친부인 유다 이를 비롯한 양측의 가족들, 료타의 본가 및 처가 식구들, 아이를 바꾼 범인인 간호사 요우코와 그녀의 아들, 료타의 회사 동료 등 주변 인물들이 전체적으로 균형 있게 등장하며, 이들 간의 관계를 통해 참된 아버지의 상과 진정한 가족의 의미가 제시된다. 그리고 영화에서는 이러한 인물형의 설정 방식에 부합하게 공간 도 조성된다. 즉, 료타 가족의 공간과 유다이 가족의 공간이 대비를 이루기보다는 양쪽을 오가는 료타의 이동 장면 등을 통한 공간의 확장이 이루어짐으로써 공존과 공생의 가능성이 시사된다. 나아가 자연적 속성을 지닌 공간들이 등장함으로써 세상에는 다양한 가정이 존재할 수 있으며 이들 구성원이 진정한 가족이 되기 위 한 시간적 여유가 필요하다는 메시지가 전달된다.
