In modern times, it is not easy to move forward in the intended direction because we are swept away by a large wave of information. The same goes for sermons, which are the words of God, and they are being delivered to the ears of the audience by numerous preachers. However, it seems difficult to deny that the phenomenon of lack of drinking water in a flood is also occurring in sermons. “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11). This age is certainly not an age where we cannot hear sermons as this verse says. Just as the saying goes, “poverty in abundance,” why are there so many sermons today, but why are they not able to quench our spiritual thirst with the words being proclaimed? There may be many reasons, but I cautiously think that it may be that the sermons we have heard have had no influence on the hearts and minds of the congregation. Of course, this does not mean that all sermons have no influence. However, I think that the essential aspect that the power of the words must be demonstrated, regardless of who proclaims them, is important if they are the words of God. Many people have been working hard to study the reasons why congregations respond differently and change depending on the preacher, even though it is the same Word of God. This study will focus on the experiences of the preachers who were one step ahead of others and based their sermons on. Among them, we will examine the experiential sermons that Puritan preachers experienced during their ministry and what role they played in their gospel ministry. In order to understand experiential sermons, we must first understand what experience is. In order to understand experiences, we must not overlook the heart, which can be said to be a vessel that holds experiences. We will also examine the parts about the heart and emotions. Based on these, we will examine the pros and cons of experiential sermons and suggest the direction of experiential sermons that the Korean church should pursue. Experience through trial and error can be the best technique. In this context, experiential sermons are also expected to exert influence in moving and changing the hearts and emotions of the congregation to a faith that is completely centered on God. This study aims to pursue experiential sermons that change hearts from the perspective of the preaching principles of Reformed Christianity.

현대는 많은 정보의 물결에 떠밀려서 목적한 방향으로 나아가기가 쉽지 않다. 하나님의 말씀인 설교도 이와 같아서 수많은 설교자들에 의해서 청중들의 귀에 흘러 들어가고 있다. 하지만 홍수 속에서 먹을 물이 부족한 것 같은 현상이 설교에서도 일어나고 있음을 부인하기 어려울 것 같다. “주 여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 날이 이를지라 내가 기근을 땅에 보내리니 양식이 없어 주림이 아 니며 물이 없어 갈함이 아니요 여호와의 말씀을 듣지 못한 기갈이라(암8:11)2).” 이 시대는 분명 이 말씀처럼 설교를 듣지 못하는 시대는 아니다. 풍요 속에 빈곤이란 말처럼 오늘날 많은 설교가 있지만 선포되는 말씀으로 영적 갈증을 해소하지 못하는 이유는 무엇인가? 여러 가지 원인들이 존재하겠지만 필자는 설교를 들었지만 그것이 들은 회중의 마음과 생각에 아무런 영향력을 발휘 하지 못한 것이 아닐 까라는 조심스러운 생각을 가져본다. 물론 모든 설교가 영향력을 못 끼치는 것이라는 말은 아니다. 다만 하나님의 말씀이라면 어떤 말씀이 선포된다고 해도, 누가 선포하더 라도 말씀의 능력이 나타나야 한다는 본질적인 면이 중요하다는 생각이다. 동일한 하나님의 말씀 인데 설교자에 따라서 회중들이 반응이 달라지고 변화가 나타나기도 하고 그렇지 않은 원인은 어 디에 있을까를 지금까지 많은 사람들이 연구하는 일에 고민하며 수고를 아끼지 않았다. 본 연구 는 한 걸음 앞서간 설교자들의 설교 속에서 그들이 설교의 근거를 둔 경험에 초점을 맞추고자 한 다. 그 가운데 청교도3) 설교자들이 사역했던 시대에 자신이 경험한 경험적인 설교를 살펴보고 그것이 복음 사역에 어떤 역할을 했는지도 알아볼 것이다. 경험적 설교를 이해하기 위해서 먼저 경 험이란 무엇인지 알아야 할 필요성이 있다. 경험을 알기 해서는 경험을 담는 그릇이라고 할 수 있는 마음 또한 간과하지 말아야 한다. 마음과 감정에 관한 부분도 살펴볼 것이다. 이러한 것들 을 바탕으로 경험적 설교가 주는 장단점이 무엇인가를 살펴보고 한국교회가 지향해야 할 경험적 설교의 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 시행착오를 거친 경험은 최고의 기술이 될 수 있다. 경험적 설 교 역시 이와 같은 맥락으로 볼 때, 회중의 마음과 감정을 온전히 하나님께 중심을 두는 신앙으 로 움직이게 하고 변화시키는 영향력을 발휘할 것으로 여겨진다. 본 연구는 개혁주의의4) 설교 원 리의 관점에서 마음을 변화시키는 경험적 설교를 지향하는 것에 목적을 두었다.
