This study aims to examine the multifaceted aspects of dances performed in various social phenomena from immediately after the liberation to the 1950s. With regard to studies of Korean dance history, this period is lacking in terms of the quantity of studies and multifaceted approaches compared to other periods. During this period, the proportion of articles on dances in social events such as ‘anniversary and commemorative events’, ‘welcome parties and celebrations’, and ‘consolation, comfort, and relief events’ appears to be considerably high. This is a very important characteristic that explains the dance culture of the time. Therefore, this paper sought to lay a study foundation that could be useful for producing multifaceted in-depth studies hereafter by identifying the characteristics of the dance culture of the time after finding dance performances held in various social spaces from immediately after the liberation to the 1950s from newspaper and video/photo materials.

이 연구는 해방 직후부터 1950년대까지 다양한 사회 현상 속에서 연행된 무용의 다면적인 양상을 고찰하는데 목적을 둔다. 한국무용 역사 연구에 있어 이 시기는 다른 때보다 연구의 양에 있어서도, 또 다각적 접근에 있어서도 부족한 편이다. 이 시기에는 ‘기념일･ 기념행사’, ‘환영회･ 축하회’, ‘위문･ 위안･ 원호(援護)’와 같은 사회행사에서의 무용 기사 비중이 상당히 높게 나타난다. 이는 당대의 무용문화를 설명해주는 매우 중요한 특성이다. 이에 이 논문에 서는 해방 직후부터 1950년대까지 행해진 사회의 여러 공간 속에서의 무용공연들을 신문 및 영상/사진 자료 속에서 찾아 당대 무용문화의 특성을 밝힘으로써 향후 다각도의 심화된 연구를 생산하는 데 유용할 수 있는 연구토대를 마련하고자 하였다.
