The purpose of this study is to investigate into the ethnicity succession of the Zainichi Koreans. Focusing particularly on language as a component of ethnicity, the study aimed to evaluate the educational strategies (language succession and school choice) of 7 Zainichi Koreans. More specifically, we investigated the Zainichi Koreans’ attitude toward language inheritance, schools (Japanese school, Korean school, and Chosun school), and the factors that promote or inhibit language succession. In addition, since the survey subjects live in Osaka City (an area with a large number of Zainichi Koreans) and surrounding areas, regional characteristics were also focused on. The current research is a case study involving survey, conducted between October 2020 and August 2021, among 7 Zainichi Korean parents living with children in Japan. The survey request was made to a Zainichi Korean NGO with which the parents had previous contact. Results showed that (1) the "spousal relationship (assiduities)" was related to the possibility of "ethnic school choice" and influenced language succession. (2) the ethnic network possessed by the family may facilitate language succession. (3) concentrated dwelling areas increased their access to resources for language succession by increasing contact with peers in the area. The present study opens up scope for further analysis of ethnicity succession from the perspectives of “Korean name use,” "choice of nationality," “Choice of marriage partner (marriage to compatriots),” and “Korean culture.

본고에서는 재일코리안의 민족성 계승에 대해 조사했다. 특히 민족성의 구성요소인 언어에 초점을 맞추어 재일코리안 보호자 7명의 교육전략(언어계승과 학교선택)을 파 악하는 것을 목적으로 조사하였다. 구체적으로는 재일코리안 보호자의 언어 계승에 대 한 생각(의미 부여), 학교(일본학교, 한국학교, 조선학교) 선택 이유, 그리고 언어 계승 의 촉진/억제 요인을 밝히는 것이다. 또한 조사 협력자의 대부분이 오사카시(재일코리 안 밀집 거주지역)와 그 주변 지역이라는 지역성에 주목했다. 본 조사는 2020년 10월부 터 2021년 8월까지 재일코리안 7명의 인터뷰 데이터를 분석 대상으로 한 사례연구이 다. 대상자 선정은 재일코리안을 밝힌 사람과 그렇지 않은 사람 중 자녀를 양육하고 있는 재일코리안 보호자를 희망하고 이전부터 교류가 있었던 코리아계 NGO 단체에 조사 의뢰를 했다. 조사 결과, ① ‘배우자와의 관계성(배려)’이 ‘민족학교 선택’ 가능성 의 유무로 이어져 간접적으로 언어 계승에 영향을 미칠 가능성이 있다. 가정이 가진 에스닉 네트워크나 활용 가능한 에스닉 자원의 유무가 언어 계승의 촉진으로 이어질 가능성이 있다. 또한 ③‘지역성’(재일재일코리안 집거지역)이 지역 내 동포와의 접촉 기회를 늘리고, 정보가 전파되어 언어 계승이 가능한 자원에 대한 접근 가능성을 높인 다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 본고의 과제에 대해서도 마지막으로 언급했다. 그것은 언어 이외 의 에스닉리티의 구성요소인 ‘본명 사용’, ‘국적 유지’, ‘배우자 선택(동포와의 결혼)’, ‘체사’를 포함한 문화 유지'에 대해서는 분석하지 못했다는 점이다.
