The purpose of this study is to derive the overall effect size of multicultural Korean language education conducted so far through a meta-analysis and to explore various variables that influence the effect size in order to suggest more effective methods for multicultural Korean language education. To this end, literature searches were conducted using RISS and Google Scholar services, and efforts were made to collect high-quality data by applying the PICOS criteria. Through a three-stage collection process, a total of 16 studies (7 journal articles and 9 theses) were used for the final analysis. Using the Random Effect Model to calculate the Hedges’ g value, the overall effect size of multicultural Korean language education programs was found to be 0.823, indicating a large effect size. In addition, an analysis of the variables affecting the overall effect size showed differences based on factors such as cultural education, length of residence, group size, and instructional time. Specifically, programs that did not include cultural education showed a higher effect size, and the shorter the participants’ length of residence in Korea, the larger the group size, and the longer the instructional time per session, the greater the effect size.

이 연구의 목적은 메타분석 방법을 활용해 지금까지 수행된 다문화 한국어 교육의 전체 효과 크기를 도출하고 효과 크기에 영향을 주는 다양한 변수를 탐색함으로써 더 욱 효과적인 다문화 한국어 교육을 위한 방안들을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 RISS, Google Scholar Service를 활용해 문헌 검색을 실시하였으며 이때 PICOS 기준을 활용 하여 양질의 데이터를 수집하고자 노력하였다. 3차에 걸친 수집 과정을 통해 학술지 7 편, 학위논문 9편, 총 16편의 연구를 최종 분석에 활용하였다. Random Effect Model 을 활용하여 Hedges g값을 계산한 결과, 다문화 한국어 교육 프로그램의 전체 효과크 기는 .823의 큰 효과 크기가 나타났다. 또한, 전체 효과 크기에 영향을 미치는 변수들 을 분석한 결과, 문화 교육 여부, 거주 기간, 집단 크기, 교육 시간에 따라 효과 크기 차 이가 나타났다.즉, 문화 교육을 포함하지 않은 프로그램이 효과 크기가 높게 나타났고, 대상자의 한국 거주 기간이 짧을수록, 집단 크기가 클수록, 1 회기당 교육 시간이 길수 록 효과 크기가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과를 바탕으로 이 연구에서 는 학생의 흥미와 동기를 유발할 수 있는 문화 교육 방안, 학교급에 따른 개별 프로그램 개발, 거주 기간이 긴 학생들을 위한 추가 프로그램 개발, 최대한 다양한 학생이 참여할 수 있는 대규모 캠프와 세미나 주최 및 커뮤니티 활성화 방안, 충분한 교육 시간 확보 등과 같은 시사점을 제시하였다.
