The purpose of this study is to clarify the correlation between geographical division and social structure of Hanyang. This study attempts to interpret the significance of the distinction between the “Upper Section” (Witdae) and “Lower Section” (Araetdae), where Taekkyeon practitioners resided. This research revisits the social stratification observed in Hanyang, which can be understood as a heterotopia of the Joseon Dynasty, and analyzes the mechanisms that established and reinforced such cultural boundaries. The results confirm that the spaces where Taekkyeon was practiced resemble the military residential areas of Hanyang in the late Joseon period. The characteristics of the residents of the Upper and Lower Sections, as documented in historical records, also reflect the influence of the military training system. The Taekkyeon practiced between these two sections can be understood as a Communitas, explicable only within this unique social context.

본 연구의 목적은 택견 향유공간 분석을 통해 한양의 지리적 분화와 사회적 구조의 상관관계를 규명하는 것이다. 현지 조사와 문헌 연구를 통해 택견 향유자들의 거주지인 ‘윗대’와 ‘아랫대’ 구분이 지닌 의 미를 해석하고자 시도했다. 그를 위해 조선의 헤테로토피아(Heterotopia) 인 한양에서 목격되는 사회분화를 재조명하고, 그러한 문화적 구획을 설 정하고 강화한 기제를 분석하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 택견을 향유한 공간은 조선 후기 한양도성의 군병 거주지와 유사하다. 문헌에 나타난 윗대와 아랫대의 거주자가 지닌 특성 또한 훈 련도감과 승호제도의 영향을 반영하고 있다. 서로 이격되어 있는 윗대와 아랫대 사이에 존재하는 결련택견은 이러한 사회적 배경에서 비로소 설 명될 수 있는 코뮤니타스(Communitas)였다.
