Are all trips truly happy? Starting with this question, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between internal conflict, emotional exhaustion, and happiness of family tourists. In particular, we would like to propose a way to improve the happiness of family tourists by verifying the moderating effect of whether or not they are accompanied by children. To achieve this research objective, variables were defined and survey questions were developed through theoretical consideration. A survey was conducted over two weeks targeting family tourists traveling around the Jeju area, and the final 286 copies were used for analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the relationships between internal conflict, emotional exhaustion, and happiness of family tourists had a significant influence on each other, and that there was a moderating effect in the relationships between internal conflict, emotional exhaustion, emotional exhaustion, and happiness depending on whether or not they were accompanied by children. This study has academic significance in that it expands the scope of role conflict research by applying the concepts of work-family conflict and job burnout, which are representative theories of role conflict, to the context of tourism. In addition, this study emphasizes that the negative experiences of family tourists are not just a problem within individuals or families, but an issue that the tourism industry, institutions, and researchers should consider together, helping to realize an increase in happiness through high-quality tourism experiences for family tourists. 과연 모든 여행은 행복할까? 본 연구는 이러한 물음을 시작으로 가족 관광객의 내적갈등, 감정소진, 행복 감 간 관계를 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 특히, 자녀 동반 유무에 따른 조절효과를 검증하여 가족 관광 객의 행복감을 증진시킬 수 있는 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 이러한 연구목적 달성을 위해 이론적 고찰을 거쳐 변수를 정의하고 설문문항을 개발하였고, 제주지역 일대를 여행하는 가족 관광객을 대상으로 2주에 걸쳐 설 문조사를 실시하여 최종 286부를 분석에 활용하였다. 분석결과 가족 관광객의 내적갈등, 감정소진, 행복감 간 관계는 서로 유의미한 영향관계가 있었으며, 자녀 동반 유무에 따라 내적갈등과 감정소진, 감정소진과 행 복감 간 관계에서 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 역할갈등의 대표적 이론인 일-가정 갈등과 직무소진의 개념을 관광이라는 상황에 적용하여 역할갈등 연구의 범위를 확장하였다는데 학문적 의의가 있 다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 가족 관광객의 부정적 경험은 단지 개인이나 가족 내부의 문제가 아닌 관광업계와 기관 그리고 연구자들이 함께 고민해야 할 사항임을 강조하며, 가족 관광객의 질 높은 관광경험을 통한 행복 감 증진을 실현하는 데 도움이 되기를 기대하는 바이다.
