Objectives The purpose of this study is to propose strategies for utilizing sports venues in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games in the Chungcheong region. To achieve this, the study analyzes three previous Asian Games hosted in South Korea: the 1986 Seoul Asian Games, the 2002 Busan Asian Games, and the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, with the aim of presenting strategies for venue utilization after the conclusion of the Asian Games. Methods For this purpose, the primary data source was white papers published by the government. Additionally, various resources such as domestic and international books, academic papers, newspaper articles, online materials, and research reports were utilized. The study was conducted using case studies and literature review methods Results First, strategies for utilizing existing sports venues should focus on transforming them into multipurpose community facilities that incorporate historical significance and adapt to contemporary changes. This would allow the venues to be designed as spaces where citizens can return for various reasons beyond just attending sporting events. Second, the newly constructed Asian Games venues, due to their large scale and specialized structures, should be repurposed for leisure activities, shopping, and cultural spaces. They should also be used to build university sports infrastructure, contribute to the local community, function as sports complexes, and support regional sports development through event hosting. Conclusions Therefore, thorough plans for the utilization and management authority of the sports facilities should be established from the construction phase onward.

본 연구는 충청지역 아시아경기대회 개최 준비를 위한 경기장 활용방안을 제시하기 위하여 우리나라 에서 개최된 세 번의 아시아경기대회인 1986년 서울 아시아경기대회, 2002년 부산아시아경기대회, 2014 년 인천아시아경기대회를 분석하여 아시아경기대회 개최 후 경기장 활용방안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있 다. 이를 위해 국가에서 발행한 백서를 주 자료로 사용하였고, 국내외 단행본, 학술논문, 신문기사, 온라 인자료, 연구보고서 등의 자료를 활용하여 사례연구와 문헌고찰 방법을 활용하여 연구하였다. 연구 동향 분석에 따른 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존경기장을 활용한 방안은 역사적 의미가 있고 시대의 변화를 활용할 수 있는 복합커뮤니티 시설이 되어야 하며, 이를 통해 시민들이 경기관람 이외에도 다양한 이유 로 다시 찾는 공간으로 설계되어야 한다. 둘째, 신축 아시아경기대회 경기장은 대규모 공간이기 때문에 특수한 구조로 되어있다. 때문에, 여가생활과 쇼핑·문화 공간으로의 활용, 대학스포츠 인프라 구축 및 지역사회의 기여에 활용, 스포츠콤플렉스로의 활용, 대회 개최와 지역 체육발전에 활용되어야 한다. 이에 체육시설의 건설 단계부터 시설의 활용과 관리 권한에 대한 계획이 철저히 수립되어야 하겠다.
