The purpose of this study was to explore the trend of Korean elementary physical education Research by conducting a systematic literature review of studies published in The Korean Journal of Elementary Physical Education from 1996 to 2023, and to suggest future research directions for the development of Korean elementary physical education. As a result of analyzing papers published over the past 28 years, this study found that majority of the research has been focusing on the area related to ‘physical education classes’, with increasing emphasis on research concerning ‘physical education curriculua’ and ‘teacher education’. In terms of research methodology, the proportion of qualitative research has recently increased, but quantitative research has shown a declining trend. Additionally, proportion of mixed methods research has remained consistently low. Based on these findings, this study proposes the expansion of the scope of research published in The Korean Journal of Elementary Physical Education, actively utilize mixed research methodology, improve the quality of research, and strengthen the connection with the educational field. These suggestions are expected to contribute to the diversity of research and the development of the educational field by overcoming the limitations of research methods in the papers currently published in The Korean Journal of Elementary Physical Education and increasing the reliability of research results. Moreover, by identifying research gaps through an analysis of research trends in the journal, this study is expected to promote the development of physical education research through efforts to enhance research quality.

본 연구는 1996년부터 2023년까지 한국초등체육학회지에 게재된 연구를 체계적인 문헌분석 방법을 통한 초등 체육 연구의 동향 및 향후 초등체육 발전을 위한 연구 방향성을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 지난 28년 동안 게재 된 논문을 분석한 결과 대부분의 연구가 체육수업과 관련된 영역에 중심을 이루고 있으며, 체육교육과정 및 체 육교사 교육 관련 연구의 중요성이 점차 더해가는 경향이 있음을 확인하였다. 한편, 연구 방법과 관련하여 최근 에는 질적 연구의 비중이 높아졌으나 양적 연구는 감소세로 나타났다. 또한 혼합 연구는 지속적으로 낮은 비중 을 보였다. 이에 본 연구는 한국초등체육학회지에 게재된 연구 범위의 확장과 혼합 연구 방법론의 적극적 활용, 연구의 질적 제고, 그리고 교육 현장과의 연계성 강화를 제안한다. 이러한 제언은 현재 한국초등체육학회지에 수 록된 논문의 연구방법적 한계를 극복하고, 연구 결과의 신뢰성을 높임으로써 연구의 다양성 및 교육 현장 발전 에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 또한, 한국초등체육학회지의 연구 동향 분석을 통해 연구 공백을 파악하고, 연구의 질적 제고를 위한 방안을 모색함으로써 체육교육 연구의 발전을 도모할 것으로 기대된다.
