The veneration of natural phenomena has been in existence since the dawn of humanity, constituting the basis for the image of “God.”In the early stages of human civilization, matrilineal societies predominated, leading to the combination of the deification of natural forces in primitive societies and the similarity between land and women in terms of conception. This led to the conceptualization of the unique belief system of “Mother Goddess of the Earth.” This paper analyzes the origins of goddess beliefs in China and Korea, as well as the local belief systems surrounding Mother Earth Goddesses in these countries. Accordingly, this comparative study of the belief systems of the two countriesanalyzes and organizes specific images and functions of goddesses within these belief systems. Simultaneously, the inheritance and evolution of these belief systems cannot be isolated from the influence of social ideology and gender consciousness. Therefore, this paper analyzes the gender transformation of Chinese deities and the status transformation of Korean goddesses during the inheritance and evolution of the Mother Earth Goddess belief systems in both countries, thereby reflecting the evolution of societies in these countries. The paper aims to promote cultural exchanges between these countries through a comparative study of the indigenous belief systems of the Earth Mother Goddess and provides guidance and reference for future studies in this area.

인류가 존재하기 시작하면서 자연물에 대한 숭배로 인해 토지에도 인격을 부여하게 되었는데, 그 결과 ‘신’이라는 이미지가 생겨났다. 인류 사회의 초기에는 모계 사회가 지배적이었다. 해당 시기 원시 인류가 자연의 힘을 신으로 의인화했다는 사실에 근거하여, 양육 측면에서 대지와 여성의 유사성은 ‘대지’와 ‘어머니’의 이미지를 연상시키게 되었고 ‘대지모신’에 대한 독특한 신앙을 형성하게 되었다. 본 연구는 한중양국 신령 신앙의 공통적인 기원인 여신, 그리고 양국 대지모신 신앙의 숭배체계에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 바탕으로 한중양국의 대지모신 신앙을 비교하고, 신앙에 구현된 구체적인 이미지와 성직 범위에 대해 분류하고 정리할 것이다. 또 신령 신앙 시스템의 발전은 사회 이데올로기와 성별에 관한 인식에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 이에 따라 양국 대지모신 신앙 시스템의 전승과 변모 과정에서 중국 토지신의 성별 전환과 한국 여신의 위상 변화에 대해 심도 있게 고찰하고자 한다. 본 연구는 한중양국의 대지모신 토착 신앙을 함께 비교하고 분석함으로써 두 나라의 문화를 상호 교류할 수 있도록 노력하고자 한다. 이와 더불어 한중 대지모신 신앙과 관련된 후속 연구에도 일정한 기초자료로서 제공될 수 있기를 바란다.
