Purpose: Analyzing the understanding of health risk assessment related to harmful and risky factors among workers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Methods: The analysis was based on the raw data of a survey conducted for the development of health risk assessment guides approved for use by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA). Results: Factors influencing the capability of performing health risk assessments include age, weekly working hours, employment type, understanding of risk assessment, and the significant relationship between risk assessment capability and these factors has been confirmed. Performance capability was found to be higher among those under 40 years of age, those working more than 40 hours per week, those in regular employment, and those who reported higher understanding of risk assessments related to job stress, cardiovascular diseases, and physical ergonomic hazards. Conclusion: In the field of health, it has been confirmed that various factors related to the capability of performing risk assessments are important, including age, working hours, employment type, and understanding of risk assessment. It has been suggested that regular employment and enhanced education can have a positive impact on job stress and disease prevention. To enhance understanding of risk assessments, it is necessary to designate responsible personnel and provide continuous educational support, ensuring that they can be easily utilized in workplaces. The significance lies in the need for further development through subsequent research.
