This paper attempted to analyze the “E-gonghun,” focusing on how the history of the independence movement of Korean American women is reproduced in it. First, I examined the way the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs(MPVA) represented the “Official Record” and discussed the independence patriot decorations. Through this, the decorations had inherent political and social implications. Next, through the case of female independence activists in the Americas, the method of reproducing female independence activists in the “E-gonghun” was analyzed. The history of the independence movement analyzed through the “E-gonghun” had a unified male-centered history of independence movement. In other words, the experience of women’s anti-Japanese activities is distorted and invisible in the history of the male-centered independence movement. Finally, I looked at the functions of ‘Thank You Note’ and ‘Error Report’ provided by each independence merit in the “E-gonghun”. I was able to capture the process of transforming the “E-gonghun,” a historic space that presents the so-called “desirable” independence movement history centered on the MPVA, into a place for communication and discussion of public history in which the general public directly participates.

본고는 미주한인여성의 독립운동사가 「공훈록」에서 어떻게 재현되는지에 중점 을 두고 「공훈록」에 대한 분석을 시도하였다. 먼저 「공훈록」에서 제공하는 독립운 동의 계열을 살펴보고 서훈제도 및 포상현황에 대해 논의하였다. 이를 통해 서훈 은 정치사회적 함의가 내재된 상태임을 확인할 수 있었다. 다음으로는, 미주방면 여성독립유공자의 사례를 통해 「공훈록」에서 여성독립운동가가 재현되는 방식에 대해서 분석하였다. 「공훈록」을 매개로 분석한 독립운동사는 일원적인 남성 중심 의 독립운동사가 배태되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 독립운동의 범주가 남성집 단의 경험을 그 기준으로 포상하고 있기에 남성의 경험이 중심이 되어 남성독립유 공자의 확대로 지금까지 이어져 온 것이다. 이로 인해 남성의 경험과는 다른 형식 으로 전개되었던 항일활동이 독립운동사에서 제외되는 결과를 낳았다. 즉 여성의 항일활동의 경험은 남성 중심의 독립운동사에서 왜곡된 상태이자 비가시화된 상 태인 것이다. 최근들어 여성독립유공자 포상에 대한 구체적인 변화가 시작되었음 에도 불구하고, 2024년 3월 기준으로 남성과 여성의 독립유공자 비율은 96.4%대 3.6%에 그치고 있음에서 이를 확인할 수 있다. 마지막으로, 「공훈록」 내 독립유공 자별로 제공하는 ‘감사의 글’과 ‘오류신고’의 기능을 살펴보았다. 국가기관이 주체 가 되어 ‘바람직’한 독립운동사를 제시하는 공간인 「공훈록」이, 일반대중이 직접 참여하는 공공역사의 소통 및 토론의 장으로 변모하는 과정을 포착할 수 있었다.
