This study explores how choreographers construct and realize meaning in their works by analyzing the semiotic characteristics of Wang Mei's modern dance work to understand the bond between the choreographer as the creator, the dancers as the expressors, and the audience. The details and meaning conveyed by the work were interpreted using Peirce's triadic principle of signs and sign relations, respectively. As a result, Firstly, icons represent each meaningful scene, indexes are signs that express the meaning of icons by connecting them with specific object, and symbol are interpretative representations of icons. Secondly, the meaningful symbols appearing in the work facilitate the progression of the narrative, introducing interpretative elements based on the relationships between the subjects. Thirdly, the symbols develop the titles of each act, guiding the connection between sections through emotional cues. This study uses semiotics to analyze choreography and how higher-level meaning is implied and expressed in works of dance, providing a more in-depth understanding of the meaning inherent in these works.

이 연구는 안무가가 작품에서 의미를 어떻게 구축하고 실현하는지를 탐구하며, 창작자인 안무가, 표현자인 무용수, 관객 사이의 유대관계를 이해하기 위해 왕메이의 현대무용 작품인 <천둥과 비>에 나타나는 기호학적 특성을 분석하였다. 작품에 나타난 의미 있는 정보와 상세한 작품 내용을 각각 퍼스의 기호 삼분법과 대상 삼분 법으로 해석한다. 연구의 결과는 첫째, 도상은 각각의 의미 있는 장면이며, 지표는 특정 대상과의 관계를 통해 도상의 의미를 연결하여 표현하는 기호이며, 상징은 도상에 대한 높은 수준의 함축적 해석하는 것이다. 둘째, 작품에 등장하는 의미 있는 기호들은 이야기의 전개를 촉진하며, 대상의 관련성을 바탕으로 해석체를 등장시킨 다. 셋째, 기호로 각 막의 제목을 전개하고, 감정적 단서를 통해 구간의 연결을 이끌어 낸다. 본 연구는 현대무 용 작품의 고도로 함축적인 표현을 기호학을 통해 분석하여 작품에 내재된 의미를 더욱 심층적으로 이해할 수 있도록 한다.
