This article focuses on the “Transboundary Korean Survey Table” in the Japanese Residency General Document to examine the residence, distribution, population, occupation, and tenure of migrant Koreans in the borderlands north of the Yalu River. It contains information such as the residence of the county, village, and town, the names of the head of the village and the head of the town, the number of households, the number of men and women, occupation, and land ownership, which is essential for analyzing the residence, population, and distribution of Korean migrants in the northern borderlands of the Yalu River. Here are the key findings we analyzed in this article. First, a comparison of the “Survey Table” with related sources such as History of Korean Migration and Recent Gando Affairs shows that migrant Koreans were evenly distributed in the middle and upper reaches of the Yalu River and the Hun River basin. Second, the “Survey Table” includes county and village, and even reflects the number of households and the number of men and women in a town, which is very useful. Third, the total number of housing units in all six counties was 5,969, with a total population of 26,700. The average number of people per unit was 4.47. The average number of people per house varied widely across counties, but there was no underrepresentation. While the overall sex ratio of 120.19 is high, it is relatively low compared to other studies. Fourth, across all villages, the range of villages with the lowest and highest average number of people per household was between 3.30 and 6.68. The range of villages with the lowest and highest sex ratio was 100.95 to 159.80. Fifth, across all towns, the range between the towns with the lowest and highest average number of people per house ranged from 1.67 to 7 people. The gender ratio between the lowest and highest towns also varied widely, ranging from 78.13 to 266.67. In some towns, the number of women outnumbered the number of men, or was the same.

본고에서는 『統監府文書』에 수록된 ｢越境韓國人調査表｣를 중심으로 압록강 이북 국경지대 이주 한인의 거주와 분포, 인구, 직업, 소작관계 등을 규명해보았다. 이 자료 에는 郡과 面, 洞의 거주지, 면장과 동장의 성명, 호수, 남녀 인구수, 직업, 소작관계 등의 정보가 조사되어 있어 압록강 이북 국경지대 이주 한인의 거주지와 인구 및 분포 를 분석하는 데에 요긴하다. 본고에서 분석한 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ｢調査表｣를 『韓國流移民史』, 『最近間島事情』등에 실린 관련 자료들과 비교 검토해본 결과, 이주 한인들은 압록강 중·상류와 혼강 유역 등 지역에 분포하고 있었다. 둘째, ｢調査表｣에는 군과 면은 물론 동의 호구수와 남녀 인구수가 조사 반영되어 있어 활용 가치가 크다. 셋째, 전체 6개 군의 총 호구수는 5,969호이었고, 총 인구수는 26,700명이었다. 전체 호당 평균인구수는 4.47명이었다. 호당 평균인구수는 군별로 편차는 컸으나 과소하게 나타나는 현상은 없었다. 전체 남녀 성비는 120.19로 높게 나타났지만, 관련 연구 결과 와 비교해보았을 때 상대적으로 낮은 수준을 나타내었다. 넷째, 전체 면에서 호당 평균인구수가 가장 적은 면과 가장 많은 면의 구간은 3.30 명~6.68명이었다. 남녀의 성비가 가장 낮은 면과 가장 높은 면의 구간은 100.95~159.80 이었다. 다섯째, 전체 동에서 호당 평균인구수가 가장 적은 동과 가장 많은 동의 구간은 1.67 명~7명으로 편차가 컸다. 남녀의 성비도 가장 낮은 동과 가장 높은 동의 구간은 78.13 명~266.67명으로 역시 편차가 컸다. 일부 동들의 경우 여자의 수가 남자의 수보다 오히 려 많거나 같은 현상을 보이기도 하였다.
