The global trend of an increasing aging population is expected to accelerate the growth of the disabled population. However, they continue to face challenges in finding suitable clothing due to the limited size options and functionality of the ready-to-wear market and the lack of tailoring services. Alteration services, in particular, are essential for addressing the clothing needs of people with severe disabilities, as standard and adaptive apparel often fall short. Alteration refers to activities that improve garments by restoring damaged clothes, hemming, mending, or modifying the size and shape of garments. This study aims to categorize commercially available alteration design methods for people with disabilities. Drawing on market research and previous studies, this research intends to provide methodological design information to enhance the clothing experience for individuals with varying physical capabilities, including those with mild to severe disabilities. Content analysis of the collected data identified three main types of garment alterations: the location of the alteration, the fastening tools used, and the methods for adjusting size and proportions. Fifteen international websites offering alteration services for people with disabilities were selected and analyzed. As a result, three main types of garment alterations were identified: alteration of garment locations, use of fasteners, and methods for adjusting size and proportions. The findings of this study are expected to provide useful information when they or their caregivers require garment alterations. Furthermore, this research aims to expand the types and scope of alteration services by offering important methodological information to developers and designers involved in the adaptive apparel industry. By raising awareness of the importance and availability of these customized alteration services, this study, eventually, is expected to serve as a valuable educational resource for the public and contribute to reducing prejudices against adaptive clothing products.

고령화 인구의 전 세계적인 증가 추세를 통해 장애 인구 비중 또한 더욱 빠르게 증가 될 것이 예상된다. 그러나 기성복의 제한된 사이즈와 기능성, 맞춤형 서비스의 부족으로 인해 장애 인구는 그들에게 적합한 의 류를 찾는 데 어려움을 겪고 있는 실정이다. 특히, 기성복 및 어댑티브 의류가 현재 중증 장애인의 수요를 충분히 반영하지 못하고 있기 때문에 수선 서비스는 필수적인 의복 제공 방법으로 이해될 수 있다. 수선은 훼손된 옷을 복구, 혹은 밑단의 수선, 옷의 사이즈·모양 등을 수정하는 등 의복을 더 나은 방향으로 변경하는 행위를 총칭한다. 본 연구는 시중에서 제공되는 장애인을 위한 수선 디자인을 유형화하고 수선 서비스 범위 를 확장하는 것을 목표로 한다. 또한 시장 조사와 선행 연구를 바탕으로, 다양한 신체적 역량과 경증부터 중증까지의 장애인을 고려하여 그들이 편안하게 의복 생활을 할 수 있도록 방법론적 정보를 제공한다. 장애 인을 대상으로 수선 서비스를 제공하는 해외 사이트 15개를 선별하여 내용 분석이 이루어졌다. 그 결과, 수선 위치, 사용된 여밈 도구, 사이즈와 비율을 조정하는 수선 방법 등 세 가지의 주요 의복 수선 유형이 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 장애인 및 간병인이 의복의 수선을 필요로 할 때 유용한 정보를 제공함으로써 장애인의 전반적인 삶의 질을 향상시키고자 하였다. 또한, 관련 의복 제품의 개발 및 수선자에게 중요한 방법론적 정보 를 제공하여 수선 서비스의 종류와 범위를 확대하고자 하였다. 이러한 맞춤 수선 서비스의 중요성과 이용 가능성에 대한 인식을 높여 대중에게 중요한 교육적 자료를 제공하고, 어댑티브 의류 제품에 대한 선입견을 줄이는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
