Korean martial arts documents began with the compilation of Muyejebo of 6 types of martial arts during the reign of King Seonjo, and later it was completed with Muyesinbo which contains 18 types of martial arts under the leadership of Crown Prince Sado and Muyedobotongji which included the 24 types of martial arts during the reign of King Jeongjo. However, the investigation conducted on the record of Mowoneoy’s Mubiji, the composition of the contents of Joseonsebeob and Saebojeonseo that appear in the preface and contents of Muyejebo Translation Collection and the composition of ‘Gwonbeob’, that of ‘Bongukgeom’ and ‘Yedo’ that appear in Muyejebo and Muyedobotongji, and such records as SeungjeongwonIlgi supports the possibility of existence of martial arts documents in pre-Joseon times. Judging by examplary cases and ‘Byeongseochongseo (Martial Arts Guide) in Muyedobotongji, the preface of Manbojeonseo and the records of Mubiji, it was found out that although the details of martial arts books in pre-Joseon times were not handed down, they were handed down and learned by the general public through word of mouth and also Saebojeonseo and Joseonsebeob handed down by Zhaoming and Mouwenyi. Based on the records and contents of various martial arts documents, the records of historical books, and a survey of three martial arts documents of pre-Joseon Dynasty, the lineage of martial arts doccuments, which covers Saebojeonseo(Mubimun) to Muyedobotongji, were comprehensively analyzed.

우리나라 무예서는 선조 때 6기의 ｢武藝諸譜｣ 편찬부터 시작되었으며 이후 사도세자 주도 하에 18기의 무예를 수록한 ｢武藝新譜｣와 정조 때 24기 무예를 수록한 ｢武藝圖譜通志｣로 완성되었다. 그러나 茅元儀 ｢武備志｣의 ｢朝鮮世法｣ 기록과 내용 구성, ｢武藝諸譜飜譯續集｣의 발문과 내용에 등장하는 ｢賽寶全書｣와 ‘拳法’ 구성, ｢무예제보｣와 ｢무예도보통지｣의 ‘本國劍’과 ‘銳刀’ 구성과 ｢承政院日記｣ 등의 기록에 따르면 ｢새보전서｣, ｢조선세법｣과 ｢본국검법｣이라는 조선시대 전의 무예서가 있음을 조사하였다. 특히 ｢무예도보통지｣의 ‘兵技總序’와 ‘범례’, ｢萬寶全書｣ 서문 및 ｢무비지｣의 기록으로 미루어 조선시대 전의 무예서가 자세히 전하지는 않았으나 세간과 제군들에 의해 구전되고 익혀져 왔고, ｢새보전서｣와, ｢조선세법｣은 昭明과 茅元儀에 의하여 전해졌음을 확인하였다. 종합적으로 여러 무예서의 기록과 내용 구성 및 역사서의 기록들 그리고 조선시대 전 3종 무예서 조사에 의거하여 ｢賽寶全書｣(武備門)에서부터 ｢무예도보통지｣에 이르기까지 무예서의 계통을 분석하였다.
