This study aims to suggest a direction for organizing Korean language classes based on the results of an analysis of the needs of exchange students. To this end, a survey was conducted with 155 exchange students who took beginning-level Korean language courses at K University in Daegu during the first and second semesters of 2023, and the data were analyzed. As a result, exchange students were found to have distinctive characteristics compared to academic-purpose learners in terms of their purpose and motivation for learning Korean, study time, areas of interest, and topics. Based on these findings, the following directions for organizing Korean language courses for exchange students are proposed. First, it is necessary to classify exchange students into separate learner groups according to their learning goals. Second, a variety of courses should be offered that exchange students can choose from based on their level and learning objectives. Third, textbooks need to be developed that are suited to the characteristics of exchange students and their purposes for learning Korean. Fourth, it is essential to organize content that provides practical help and enhances their learning motivation. Lastly, various teaching methods that consider the characteristics of exchange students should be developed.

본 연구는 교환학생의 요구 조사 분석 결과를 토대로 초급 교환학생 대상 한국어 교육에 대한 방향성을 제 시하려는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 대구 소재 K 대학교에서 2023년 1학기, 2학기 초급 한국어 수업을 수강 한 교환학생 155명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하고 결과를 분석하였다. 그 결과 교환학생들은 한국어 학습 목적 및 동기, 학습 시간, 관심 영역 및 주제 등에 있어서 학문 목적 학습자와 차별화된 특징이 있었다. 이를 토대로 초급 교환학생 대상 한국어 교육의 방향에 대해 정리해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교환학생에 대한 별도 의 학습자군 분류가 필요하다. 둘째, 교환학생들의 수준과 학습 목적에 따라 선택 가능한 다양한 교과목이 개 설되어야 한다. 셋째, 교환학생의 특성과 목적에 맞는 교재 개발이 필요하다. 넷째, 교환학생들에게 실질적인 도움을 주며 학습 동기를 높일 수 있는 수업 내용을 구성해야 할 것이다. 마지막으로, 교환학생의 특성을 고려 한 다양한 수업 방법 개발이 필요하다.
