Hak Ja Han and Sun Myung Moon, co-founder of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), have consistently emphasized environmental mission ideology since 1959 that nature created by Heavenly Parents is a necessary condition for human completion and that the polluted earth should be returned to the purpose of creation by serving Heavenly Parents at the center. According to this co-founder’s ideology, the UPF recognizes the various global problems currently experienced by climate and environmental change, and is making academic efforts to face the current climate crisis as accurately as possible and find scientific, ethical, and realistic alternatives for symbiosis of the entire ecosystem, including humans, from a human-centered environmental perspective. This study examined prior studies on climate and environmental change, focusing on related literature, understanding environmental mission ideology, introducing environmental missionary work by co-founders for climate and environmental change, and exploring the direction of activities related to climate and environmental change for the UPF in the future. Environmental mission is defined as a ministry that promotes the completion of the Three Great Blessings of Heavenly Parent to global citizens by preserving and protecting everything such as the world, earth, nature, etc., created by Heavenly Parent with the True Love of Heavenly Parent practiced by the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, Peace NGOs centered on the Universal Peace Federation, and Peace enterprises established by Hak Ja Han and Sun Myung Moon. It exists for realizing the Peaceful Ideal World centered on the ideology of “One Family under Heavenly Parent.” The direction of activities for the UPF to respond to climate and environmental changes was first proposed to apply the environmental mission ideology and activities of co-founders to the activities of the UPF, and secondly, to develop a continuous environmental movement aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

세계평화연합(UPF: Universal Peace Federation)의 공동설립자인 한학자･문선명 총재는 하늘부모님이 창조하신 자연이 인간완성을 위한 필요조건이며, 하늘부모님 을 중심에 모시고 오염된 지구를 창조주의 창조목적대로 환원시켜야 한다는 환경선 교를 1959년부터 지속적으로 강조하였다. 이러한 공동설립자의 이념에 따라, 세계 평화연합(UPF)은 현재 기후･환경변화에 의해 겪고 있는 다양한 세계적 문제들을 인 식하며, 그 문제들을 해결하기 위해 현재의 기후위기 현실을 최대한 정확히 직시하 고 인간 중심의 환경론적 입장에서 인간을 비롯한 생태계 전체의 공생을 위한 과학 적이고 윤리적이며 현실적인 대안을 찾기 위한 학술적 노력을 하고 있다. 본 연구는 관련 문헌들을 중심으로 기후･환경 변화에 대한 선행연구들을 고찰한 후, 한학자･ 문선명 총재의 평화이념을 중심으로 환경선교를 이해하고, 기후･환경 변화를 위한 공동설립자의 환경선교활동을 소개하면서, 향후 세계평화연합의 기후･환경 변화를 위한 활동방향성을 모색하였다. 환경선교는 ‘하늘부모님 아래 인류 한가족’의 평화이상세계 실현을 위해, 세계평화통일가정연합(FFWPU), 세계평화연합(UPF)을 중심 한 평화NGO들, 그리고 평화기업체들이 하늘부모님이 창조하신 만물(피조세계, 지 구, 자연 등)이 더 이상 오염되지 않도록, 하늘부모님의 참사랑으로 보존･보호하여, 하늘부모님의 창조목적인 3대축복완성의 가르침을 세계시민들에게 선전하는 사역 이다. 기후･환경변화에 대응하기 위한 세계평화연합의 활동방향성은 첫째, 공동설립 자 한학자･문선명 총재의 환경선교이념과 그 활동방안들을 우선적으로 세계평화연 합의 활동에 적용할 것과 둘째, UN의 “지속가능성장목표”(Sustainable Development Goals)에 정렬된 지속적인 환경운동의 전개를 제안하였다.
