Unfortunately, it is true that the Book of Revelation has been a considerable misunderstanding in Korean churches. One of the most representative examples is the treatment of the Book of Revelation as an eschatology that informs the future of the Earth. Given this situation, it is true that the Book of Revelations was regarded as a book of fear and panic, or a book that avoids putting it on the diet of sermons. A correct sermon on the Book of Revelation must begin with a correct understanding of the core themes presented by the Book of Revelation. It is absurd to preach in the Bible without proper reading and interpretation of the Book of Revelation. If so, we must ask the following questions. What kind of book is the Book of Revelation?? What is the core theme through the Book of Revelation? As many recent scholars agree, the Book of Revelation can be answered as a book that invites the church, a community of faith, to serve as a witness in the kingdom of God. In a word, it can be said that the witness or ‘witness motif’ is in place on the core theme of the Book of Revelations. The basis of the church’s witness ministry is Jesus Christ, who has become a faithful witness. Since the church conducts the witness ministry through the practice of the disciples who follow Jesus, the true witness, the church’s witness ministry (Ecclesiology)unfolds on the basis of Jesus’ witness ministry (Christology). In this way, even in the witness motif, Christology and Ecclesiology also have a close causal relationship. In the meantime, Korean churches have rarely discussed the witness motif, which can be said to be a very important key topic governing the Book of Revelation. Even if the discussion was made, it was only partially and fragmented. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to present the correct understanding of the Book of Revelation through the witness motif and the preaching direction accordingly as an alternative that goes beyond the limits of the existing sermons of Book of Revelation.

안타깝게도 그동안 한국교회에서 요한계시록은 적지 않은 오해가 되었던 것이 사실이다. 그 대표적인 것 가운데 하나가 바로 요한계시 록을 지구호의 미래에 대한 일정표를 알려주는 종말론으로 취급한 것 이다. 상황이 이렇다 보니 요한계시록은 두려움과 공포의 책으로나, 그렇지 않으면 설교의 식단에 올리기를 기피하는 책으로 여겨진 것이 사실이다. 요한계시록에 대한 올바른 설교는 요한계시록이 제시하고 있는 핵심 주제에 대한 바른 이해에서부터 시작되어야 한다. 요한계시록에 대한 올바른 읽기와 해석이 선행되지 않은 채 성경적인 설교를 한다는 것은 어불성설이다. 그렇다면 다음과 같은 질문을 하지 않을 수 없다. 요한 계시록은 어떤 책인가? 요한계시록을 관통하는 핵심주제는 과연 무엇 인가? 최근의 많은 학자들이 동의하는 것처럼, 요한계시록은 신앙공동 체인 교회를 하나님 나라의 증인 사역으로 초대하는 책이라고 답 할 수 있을 것이다. 한마디로 요한계시록의 핵심 주제에 증인 내지는 증인 모 티프가 자리를 잡고 있다고 할 수 있다. 교회의 증인 사역의 기초는 신 실한 증인 되신 예수 그리스도이시다. 참된 증인이신 예수님을 따르는 제자도의 실천으로 교회가 증인의 사역을 펼쳐가는 것이기에, 예수님 의 증인 사역(기독론)의 토대 위에서 교회의 증인 사역(교회론)이 펼쳐 지게 되는 것이다. 이렇게 증인 모티프에서도 역시 기독론과 교회론은 밀접한 인과 관계를 갖게 된다. 이렇게 요한계시록을 지배하는 매우 중요한 핵심 주제라고 할 수 있 는 증인 모티프에 대하여, 그동안 한국교회의 설교에서는 거의 논의를 하지 않았다. 논의를 한다고 해도 고작 파편적이고 부분적으로 다룰 뿐 이었다. 하여 본 논문의 목적은 기존의 요한계시록 설교의 한계를 넘어 서는 대안으로 기독론과 교회론의 관점에서 증인 모티프로 통한 요한 계시록의 바른 이해와 그에 따른 설교적인 방향성을 제시하는데 있다.
