This research explores how Japan, a country with limited energy resources, strategically leverages the natural gas wealth of Russia, a neighboring nation rich in energy, in the long term from an energy security perspective. The research adopts an analytical approach, not attempted in prior studies. It examines 18 years of press releases (2003-2020) from Gazprom, Russia’s largest energy company, contrasting Japan’s prominence as an energy collaborator and importer with other Northeast Asian countries such as China, South Korea, and North Korea.

에너지자원 빈국인 일본이 에너지안보 관점에서 지리적으로 가까운 에너지자원 부국인 러시아의 천연가스를 어떻게 장기적으로 활용하고 있는지를 비교분석했다. 본 연구는 기존 연구에서 시도하지 않았던 분석방식을 채택했다. 러시아 최대 에너지기업인 가즈프롬의 18년치 보도자료(2003~2020년)를 내용분석하여, 러시아 측에서 바라보는 에너지 개발 협력국 및 수입국으로서 일본의 비중을 중국, 한국, 북한 등 동북아시아 역내 다른 국가들과 비교해 고찰했다.
