Through an examination of Luigi Russolo’s manifesto “The Art of Noise,” published in March 1913, this paper contends that it championed new aesthetics by embracing noise and aspiring to technological power. Russolo’s incorporation of noise-sound into music and his construction of musical instruments known as intonarumori exemplify his exploration of the aesthetic potential inherent in noise. While acknowledging Russolo’s experimental forays into noise, which engendered transformative perceptual experiences, this paper focuses on his endorsement of the noise of warfare. It investigates Russolo’s understanding of the machine within the broader context of Futurist engagement with modern technology and its alignment with Fascist nationalist sentiments. By scrutinizing various Futurists manifestoes, it posits that the Fascist impulse was entrenched within the radical Futurist vision, which exalted technology and militarism. Ultimately, this inquiry seeks to unveil the inherent Futurist aspiration for domination intertwined with the aesthetic vision articulated in “The Art of Noise.”

본 논문은 이탈리아 미래주의 화가 루이지 루솔로가 1913년 3월에 선포한 「소음의 예술」 이 기계의 소리를 찬미하며 새로운 미학을 주창하면서도 한편으로는 미래주의자들이 가졌던 기술 권력에 대한 욕망을 내재하고 있음을 고찰하고자 한다. 미래주의자들은 산업화와 도시 화로의 역동적인 발전과 변화를 옹호했고 현대의 기술 발전을 적극적으로 수용하였다. 루솔 로는 현대 도시의 환경을 반영하는 소음을 음악에 편입시키고 인토나루모리와 같은 소음 악 기를 제작하면서 소음의 미학적인 잠재력을 모색하였다. 본 논문은 루솔로가 소음을 수용하 여 새로운 감각 경험을 제공하는 실험을 전개함으로써 현대 음악의 가능성을 확장한 기여를 인정하지만, 이와 동시에 전쟁의 소음도 긍정했던 점에 주목한다. 이러한 루솔로의 입장을 기계에 대한 미래주의의 태도 및 파시즘의 국가주의와 연관지어 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위하 여 다수의 미래주의 선언문들에서 표명된 기계에 대한 전망을 돌아보고, 기술과 전쟁을 현대 화의 근간으로 삼았던 미래주의의 급진주의적인 전망이 파시즘의 권력에 대한 욕망을 반영 하고 있음을 살펴보고자 한다. 궁극적으로는 「소음의 예술」이 전망했던 미학적인 혁신이 미 래주의가 추구했던 권력 욕망에서 결백하지 않음을 드러내고자 한다.
