The purpose of this study is to explore the empowerment of Vietnamese migrant women who transitioned from international students to professional workers and subsequently to marriage immigrants in South Korea, from both individual and structural perspectives. The study also seeks to identify implications for enhancing the empowerment of migrant women. Using an exploratory case study method, in-depth interviews were conducted with two research participants, focusing on the formation of empowerment among Vietnamese migrant women during their migration process and the manifestation of this empowerment in their living environments, such as family, workplace, and institutions in Korean society. A total of 12 themes were derived from the study. The analysis revealed that the empowerment of Vietnamese migrant women was shaped during their growth process in their home country, influenced by the characteristics of their home society, the roles and economic activities of their parents, and their education and employment experiences. After migrating to Korea, their empowerment evolved as they experienced new environments, including education, employment, and marriage. Additionally, the manifestation of empowerment was influenced by the characteristics of their familial, workplace, and institutional environments. This study is significant in that it comprehensively analyzes the empowerment of Vietnamese migrant women from various aspects and examines their experiences before and after migration. However, the study is limited by its focus on Vietnamese migrant women and the specific migration path from international students to marriage immigrants, as well as its inability to capture long-term changes in empowerment. Future research should consider a wider range of migration paths, cultural backgrounds, and life courses of migrant women to conduct more in-depth studies.

본 연구의 목적은 유학생에서 결혼이민자가 된 베트남 이주여성의 임파워먼트를 개 인적 및 구조적 차원에서 탐색하고, 이주여성의 임파워먼트 향상을 위한 시사점을 모 색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 탐색적 사례연구 방법을 활용하여 2명의 연구참여자를 대상 으로 심층면접을 실시하였으며, 이주 과정에 따른 베트남 이주여성의 임파워먼트 형성 과 가정․직장․제도 등 한국 사회의 거주 환경에서 발현되는 양상을 중심으로 총 12개의 주제를 도출하였다. 분석 결과, 베트남 이주여성의 임파워먼트는 이주 전 모국사회의 특성과 부모의 역할 및 경제활동, 교육 및 취업 경험 등 성장 과정 속에서 형성되었으 며, 이주 후 새로운 환경에서 교육, 취업, 결혼 등을 경험하면서 변화하였다. 또한, 임파 워먼트는 가정․직장․제도적 환경의 특성에 따라 상호 영향을 받으면서 발현되었다. 본 연구는 베트남 이주여성의 임파워먼트를 다양한 측면에서 종합적으로 분석하고, 이주 전·후의 경험을 통해 파악했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 그러나 연구참여자가 베트남 이 주여성으로 한정되었고, 유학생에서 결혼이민자가 된 경로만을 다루었으며, 장기적인 관점에서 임파워먼트 변화 양상을 파악하지 못한 점은 한계로 남아 있다. 추후 연구에 서는 이주여성의 다양한 이주 경로와 문화적 배경, 생애과정 등을 고려하여 보다 심층 적인 연구가 필요하다.
