This paper have been organized and analyzed articles related to Kim Jwa-jin's anti-Japanese independence movement and remembrance in the domestic media during the Japanese colonial period and immediately after liberation. Particularly, this paper was aimed to analyze the content of commemorative articles appearing after his death to confirm the popular influence of his independence movement. This research could be meaningful not only in understanding Kim Jwa-jin as an individual but also in approaching the historical reality of the Cheongsanri Battle. Looking at the coverage of Kim Jwa-jin's martyrdom in the domestic press, Donga Ilbo, Chosun Ilbo, Maeil Shinbo, and Jungoe Ilbo consistently regarded him as an outstanding leader in the anti-Japanese armed struggle. They also tended to implicitly elevate his achievements in the Cheongsanri Battle. Especially noteworthy are Chosun Ilbo's commemorative articles on Kim Jwa-jin, which, considering the context of the Japanese colonial period, could be significant historical documents. While other newspapers may vary in their assessments, they still provide valuable analytical material. Additionally, articles expressing concern for Kim Du-han, Kim Jwa-jin's son, appeared in the press, reflecting the sentiment of sympathy among the Korean people for his martyrdom. After liberation, memories and commemorations of Kim Jwa-jin revived alongside the Cheongsanri Battle, and it is believed that his relationships with his son Kim Du-han and Lee Beom-seok had a considerable influence in this regard. The 17th anniversary memorial service for Kim Jwa-jin was held at the Seoul International Cemetery, attended by dignitaries from various fields such as Kim Gu and Jo So-ang. A memorial monument was erected in Namsan Park, Hongseong, Kim Jwa-jin's hometown, under the auspices of the Daehan Youth Corps Hongseong Division. Discussions about producing a biopic were initiated, and a theater performance titled "Wilderness" was staged. Articles about the passing of Kim Jwa-jin's mother, Han San Lee, and recollections from Lee Beom-seok, while fragmentary, still serve to demonstrate Kim Jwa-jin's revered status as a leader in the independence movement.

본 논문에서는 일제시기와 해방 직후 국내언론에 나타난 김좌진의 항일독립운동과 추모 에 관련된 기사들을 정리해 분석해 보았으며, 특히 그가 사망한 이후 나타는 추모 기사의 내용을 분석해 그의 독립운동이 갖고 있던 대중적 영향력을 확인하고자 하였다. 이는 김좌진 개인에 대해서 뿐만 아니라, 청산리전투에 대한 역사적 실체에 접근하는 것에 있어서도 의미있는 연구가 될 수 있을 것이다. 김좌진의 순국을 전후한 국내언론의 보도를 통해서 보면 『동아일보』, 『조선일보』, 『매일신보』, 『중외일보』는 한결같이 그를 항일무장투쟁의 탁월한 지도자로 인식하고 있었으며, 청산리전투에서의 성과를 은연중에 높이 평가하는 경향을 보이고 있었다. 특히 『조선일보』의 김좌진에 대한 추모 기사는 당시가 시기적으로 일제 치하였다는 점을 고려한다면 보다 의미있는 역사적 사료가 될 수 있을 것으로 판단되기도 한다. 다른 신문들의 경우도 정도 의 차이는 있지만, 의미있는 분석자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 보인다고 하겠다. 이밖에 언론 에 보이는 김좌진 사후 국내에서의 김두한을 염려하는 기사 등도 그의 순국을 안타까워하 는던 국내 민중들의 분위기를 전달하는 것이었다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 해방 이후에는 김좌진에 대한 기억과 추모가 청산리전투와 함께 되살아났으며, 이와 관 련해서는 아들 김두한과 이범석 등과의 관계가 상당한 영향을 끼치고 있었던 것으로 생각 된다. 김좌진에 대한 17주기 추도식이 김구와 조소앙 등 각계의 인사가 참여한 가운데 서울 국제국장에서 거행되었으며, 추모비가 대한청년단 홍성군단부 주체로 고향인 홍성의 남산 공원에 건립되었다. 일대기에 대한 영화제작이 논의 되었으며, ‘황야’라는 제목으로 한 연 극공연이 이루어졌다. 그리고 김좌진의 어머니 한산 이씨의 부고와 관련된 기사 및 이범석 의 회고에 나타난 기억은 단편적이기는 하지만, 김좌진이 존경받는 독립운동의 지도자였음 을 보여주는 것이라고 하겠다.
