In this article, we looked at the Lineage and characteristics of (long) square dwellings through observations of (long) square dwellings from the Proto-Three Kingdoms to the Hanseong period of Baekje. As a result, during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period, (long) square-shaped dwellings were identified that were smaller in scale than the semi-dwellings and did not have protruding entrance facilities. Since these shared the same major axis direction and the same plan form, they were identified as being of the same type as the semi-dwellings. It was named square dwelling. The (long) square-shaped dwellings of the Hanseong period of Baekje are a residential type (①) that inherited the semi-square-style dwellings of the Proto-Three Kingdoms period, and a residential type (②) that combined the characteristics of the Mahan dwellings with this, and there is an influence of the semi-detached dwellings. A variety of (long) square-shaped dwellings are observed, including the residential type (③), which is characterized by the characteristics of Mahan dwellings. In villages located on alluvial lands, (long) square-shaped dwellings of residential types ① and ② are mainly distributed, and in villages located on hills, (rectangular) residential types of residential types ③ are distributed. However, these various types of (long) square dwellings are generally smaller in size than halfway houses, so they are believed to have been special-purpose spaces such as workshops or dwellings with a small number of household members.

이 글에서는 원삼국~백제 한성기의 (장)방형 주거지에 대한 관찰을 통해 (장)방형 주거 지의 계통과 성격에 대해 살펴보았다. 그 결과 원삼국시대에는 중도식 주거지보다 규모가 작고 돌출된 출입 시설이 없는 (장) 방형주거지가 확인되는데, 이는 동일한 장축 방향과 동일한 평면 형태를 공유하기 때문에 중도식 주거지와 동일 계통으로 파악하여 중도식 방형 주거지로 명명하였다. 백제 한성기의 (장)방형 주거지는 원삼국시대의 중도식 방형 주거지를 계승한 주거 유형 (①)과 여기에 마한계 주거의 특성이 융합된 주거 유형(②), 그리고 중도식 주거의 영향이 있지만, 마한계 주거의 특성이 두드러진 주거 유형(③) 등 다양한 (장)방형 주거지가 관찰 된다. 충적지에 입지한 취락에서는 주로 ①과 ② 주거 유형의 (장)방형 주거지가 분포하고, 구릉에 입지한 취락에서는 ③ 주거 유형의 (장)방형 주거지가 분포한다. 하지만 이러한 다양한 형태의 (장)방형 주거지는 공통적으로 중도식 주거지보다 규모가 작기 때문에 공방과 같은 특수 목적의 공간이었거나, 가구 구성원의 수가 적은 주거로 판 단된다.
