This study aims to explore the essence of experiences in which military life counselors, employed by the Ministry of National Defense, shape their professional identity within various counseling situations arising in military life. The purpose of this study is to understand the professional identity of military life counselors and enhance their job-related qualities and skills. Participants were recruited through snowball sampling method based on recommendations from colleagues, selecting eight individuals with over 5 years of work experience. In-depth interviews were conducted from October to December 2022. Insufficient data were supplemented and revised through methods such as phone calls and text messages. Data analysis was performed using Giorgi's phenomenological research method to reveal the essence of the phenomenon. As a result, 54 meaningful words and overlapping meanings were condensed into 13 common themes. Analyzing these themes in the context and coherence, 3 core themes were derived: What it means to be a military life counselor, ‘Doubts and uncertainties as a military life counselor’, and ‘Establishing roots as a military life counselor’. ‘The study findings indicated that military life counselors experience psychological conflicts related to their duties during the process of forming their professional identity. However, these experiences contribute to strengthening counseling expertise and increasing job satisfaction. Based on these results, the significance of the study and suggestions for future research and tasks were proposed.

본 연구는 병영생활 전문상담관이 국방부에 소속된 근로자로 병영생활에서 발생하는 다양한 상담 상황 속에서 자신의 직업정체성을 어떻게 형성해 나가는지 그 경험의 의미가 무엇인지 심층적으로 탐색하는데 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 병영생활 전문상담관들의 직업정체성을 파악하고 업무적인 자질과 능력을 높이는 데 있다. 연구 참여자는 주변 동료의 추천을 통한 눈덩이 표집 방법으로 5년 이상 근무한 8명을 선정하였 다. 2022년 10월부터 12월까지 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 부족한 자료는 전화 통화 및 문자 등의 방법으로 수정 보완하였다. 자료 분석은 Giorgi(2012)의 현상학적 연구 방법으로 하였다. 그 결과 54개의 의미단위와 13개의 하위구성요소를 도출하였다. 이를 분석한 결과, ‘병영생활 전문상담이 주는 의미’, ‘병영생활 전문상 담관으로서의 흔들림’, ‘병영생활 전문상담관으로 자리잡기’ 3개의 구성요소를 도출하였다. 본 연구의 결과 병영생활 전문상담관들의 직업정체성 형성 경험에서 직무와 관련하여 심리적 갈등을 경험하지만 이를 통 해 상담 전문성을 강화하고 직업 만족도를 높인다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 추후 과제에 대해 제안하였다.
