The Literary Characteristics of Murakami Gyoshū - Focusing on Princess Kishi’s Poems of Homecoming -
초록
영어
Through this study, by examining the homecoming songs related to Empress Saigū Kishi in the Murakami Gyoshū, it is inferred that their continuous singing serves the purpose of highlighting the image of a considerate emperor. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the exchanged poems between spouses of the highest rank during the Heian period, conducted through private interactions, functioned as a means of communication when they were living apart. Additionally, given that the Murakami Gyoshū is a unique manuscript, its relationship with the Saigū Nyōgo Gyoshū has always been a subject of discussion. However, this study revealed that the unique arrangement of the Murakami Gyoshū bestows a narrative quality to the relevant group of poems. Specifically, the exchanged poems forming the Murakami Gyoshū exhibit different combinations from those in the Saigū Nyōgo Gyoshū, making it clearer in the process of determining which is more appropriate to treat as paired exchanges. This led to a clearer interpretation of the functionality of the group of poems related to Empress Saigū Kishi, spanning numbers 6 to 81. Moreover, this study contributed to the understanding of the relationship between the two Gyoshūs and served as a basis for assessing their forms as original sources.
