This paper is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary study that combines the "intertextuality" of the Old and New Testament texts shown in Matt. 2 and "iconography" of (1962), Lee Yeonho's art work set in the same Bible. This study can be called the aesthetic-biblical approach or interpretation to the Bible that combines this harmony and interpretation of the text in this paper, which can be significant as an effort to propose a new biblical commentary methodology to explore not only the rationality and logic of the Bible text but also the aesthetic elements, emotional characteristics, and religious dimensions of the text. Lee Yeon-ho's paintings were able to implicitly contain the themes, contents, and meanings of the Bible's religious and spiritual dimensions, and the specific experiences and realities of the birth of baby Jesus, the visit and the adoration of Magi and return of the Joseph family etc., which various Old Testament texts and Matt. 2 testifies to, showed that the spiritual events connected to God's providence and salvation were not virtual "fiction" but spiritual events and "real history“, while confirming that the meaning and message of the text were still meaningful to modern people belonging to various races, classes, ages, and cultures living today.

본 논문은 마태복음 2장에서 나타나고 있는 구약과 신약 본문에 대한 ‘본문상호적해석’(intertextuality)과 동일한 성경본문을 배경으로 하는 이 연호의 미술 작품인 <베들레헴 위 헤롯 군인들의 군화...>(1962)에 대한 ‘도상학적 해석’(iconography)을 결합한 통섭적이며 간학문적인 연구이다. 본 논문에서는 구약과 신약의 연결 본문들에 대한 주석적 작업과 표현의 산물로서, 본문과 연관된 미술 작품에 관한 도상학적 해석과 작품의 근거 가 된 성경 본문에 대한 미학적 관점의 해석을 통해 새로운 시각에서 본문 을 재해석 함으로써 발견하게 되는 본문의 의미와 메시지가 무엇인가를 찾 기 위한 연구를 전개하였다. 본 논문의 이러한 연구는 성화와 성경에 대한 미학적-성경적 접근 또 는 해석이라 할 수 있으며, 이는 합리성과 논리성을 탐구하는 데에 그치지 않고 성경과 성화의 심미적이며 감성적인 특징을 파악하고 해석하는 새로 운 성경 주석 방법론을 제시하려는 노력으로써 의의를 가질 수 있다. 이연 호의 작품은 성경의 종교적, 영적 차원의 주제와 내용, 의미를 함축적으로 표현할 수 있었으며, 아기 예수의 탄생과 피난과 귀환, 동방박사들의 방문 과 경배 등 구체적인 경험과 현실을 담을 수 있었다. 이와 관련된 다양한 구약성경 본문과 마태복음 2장은 하나님의 섭리와 구원과 관련된 영적 사 건들이 '허구'가 아니라 영적 사건이자 '실제' 역사임을 증언하고 보여주며, 오늘날의 다양한 계층, 연령, 문화 인종에 속하여 살아가는 현대인에게도 성경 본문의 메시지가 여전히 의미가 있음을 이 연구를 통하여 확인할 수 있었다.
