The goal of this paper is to reveal the theoretical correlation between Walter Benjamin and Carl Schmitt and to reject the proletariat general strike that Benjamin presented as a means of nonviolent solution to conflicts. In Critique of Violence, Benjamin considers a proletariat general strike as a nonviolent solution to conflicts along with linguistic means. However, Benjamin turns to programmatic anarchism by ‘politically’ advocating Sorel's Syndicalism. As a result, Benjamin not only drew an argument that contradicted his criticism of the idea of progress, but also advocated the law-making violence. In this constellation, i t is necessary to exclude the proletariat general strike, discussing nonviolent solutions. If this work is successful, through the elimination method we can focus on the argument of pure language as a nonviolent pure solution to conflicts.

본 논문은 발터 벤야민(Walter Benjamin)과 칼 슈미트(Carl Schmitt) 사이의 사상적인 연 관관계를 밝히고, 그 과정에서 벤야민이 비폭력적인 갈등해결의 수단으로서 제시하고 있는 프롤레타리아트 총파업을 거부할 근거를 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 폭력비판을 위하여에서 벤야민은 비폭력적인 갈등해결을 위한 순수 수단(rein Mittel)으 로서 상호이해나 대화와 같은 언어적 수단과 함께 프롤레타리아트 총파업을 제시하고 있다. 그런데 프롤레타리아트 총파업에 대한 논의에서, 벤야민은 소렐의 생디칼리즘을 그저 ‘정치 적으로’ 옹호함으로써 강령적인 무정부주의적 입장으로 향한다. 그 결과, 벤야민은 슈미트의 주권론과 같이 종국에는 새로운 법정립적 폭력을 옹호할 뿐인 사상으로, 말하자면 강령적 무정부주의(Programmatic Anarchism)로 나아가게 되었을 뿐만 아니라, 진보 신앙에 대한 비 판으로 대표되는 그 자신의 역사철학과 모순된 주장을 도출하게 되었다. 이러한 맥락에서, 최소한 비폭력적인 갈등해결에 대한 논의에 있어서는 프롤레타리아트 총파업에 대한 벤야 민의 입장을 배제할 필요가 있다는 것이다. 이러한 작업이 성공적일 경우에는, 소거법을 통 해 벤야민이 제시하고 있는 또 다른 순수 수단인 순수 언어(reine Sprache)를 통한 비폭력적 인 갈등해결에 대한 연구에만 집중할 수 있을 것이다.
