(Purpose) The objective of this study is to explore various discussions on international cooperation concerning the phenomenon of international migration. Through this exploration, the study aims to assess the current status and policies of international migration cooperation in South Korea. (Research methods) This study employed a literature review approach to analyze theoretical discussions on international migration cooperation and to evaluate the policy objectives and tasks related to international migration cooperation that are outlined in South Korea's Basic Plan for Immigration Policy. (Findings) Despite the implementation of various relevant systems and policies since the 2000s, it was not until the 2010s that the recognition of the need for international cooperation in addressing international migration phenomena was strengthened. This recognition has begun to be reflected in specific policy objectives and tasks. Particularly from the second Basic Plan for Immigration Policy onward, international migration cooperation has been treated as a major policy objective and a focus of key tasks. (Conclusion and recommendations) The policy objectives related to international migration cooperation in South Korea's Basic Plan for Immigration Policy primarily focus on multilateral cooperation based on universalism, specifically participation in international migration governance. However, given that a significant portion of immigrants in South Korean society originate from Asia and that regional migration is becoming more active within the region, there is a need for strategic considerations regarding regional migration governance.

(연구목적) 본 연구의 목적은 국제이주･이민 현상을 둘러싼 국제협력에 관한 여러 논의들을 살펴보고, 이를 통해 한국의 국제이민협력 현황 및 정책을 평가하는 것이다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 문헌연구 방법을 활용하여, 국제이민협력에 관한 이론적 논의와 한국 외국인정책 기본계획 에서 나타난 국제이민협력 관련 정책목표 및 과제를 논의하였다. (연구결과) 한국의 국제이민협력 정책은 2000년대부터 다양한 관련 제도･정책들이 시행되었음에도 불구하고, 2010년대에 이르러서야 국제이주 현상에 대한 국제적 협력 노력이 필요하다는 인식이 강화되었을 뿐 아니라 구 체적인 정책목표 및 과제로 제시되기 시작하였다. 특히, 제2차 외국인정책 기본계획부터 국제이민협력이라는 주 제가 본격적으로 주요 정책목표 및 중점과제로서 다루어지기 시작하였다. (결론 및 제언) 한국의 외국인정책 기본계획에서 국제이민협력 관련 정책목표는 주로 보편주의에 기반한 다자협 력, 즉 국제 이민 거버넌스에의 참여에 초점이 맞춰져있다. 그러나 한국사회 이민자 중 상당수가 아시아 지역 출 신이라는 점과 아시아 역내 이민이 활성화되고 있다는 점을 고려했을 때, 지역 이민 거버넌스에 대한 정책적 고 민이 필요하다.
