Recent studies highlighting the prevalence of adverse childhood experiences and trauma among juvenile offenders demonstrate a strong connection between past negative experiences and subsequent delinquency. This underscores the need for juvenile probation services and the broader juvenile justice system to address these issues promptly. The current study introduces the concept and characteristics of trauma-informed care, a topic actively discussed by Western scholars aiming to enhance the therapeutic and rehabilitative nature of supervising traumatized juvenile offenders. It details the foundations and key principles of this approach and explores its potential application in the Korean context, while anticipating challenges and emphasizing the need to evaluate the effectiveness of trauma-informed care. The findings suggest that integrating trauma-informed care into probation practices can improve outcomes in areas where traditional sanction-based approaches have proven less effective, by addressing the unresolved psychological issues of juvenile offenders and guiding supervision to support their recovery.

소년범 사이에서 빈번하게 발견되는 아동기 부정적 생애경험과 트라우마 문제는 소년 보호관찰을 비롯한 소년사법 체계에서도 트라우마가 더 이상 이질적인 주제가 아님을 시사한다. 본 연구에서는 트라우마를 경험한 소년 대상자의 지도감독에서 치 료 및 재활적 성격을 강화하기 위해 최근 국외에서 활발히 논의되고 있는 트라우마 기반 케어의 개념과 특성을 소개하고, 그 전제 사항과 주요 원칙을 설명하였다. 또 한, 향후 국내 적용 시 고려해야 할 사항들과 예상되는 문제점, 그리고 트라우마 기 반 케어의 효과성 평가에서 주의해야 할 점들에 대해서도 논의하였다. 트라우마 기 반 케어를 보호관찰 실무에서 활용하면 소년 대상자의 미해결된 심리적 문제를 이해 하고 이들의 회복을 지원하는 방향으로 지도감독을 진행함으로써 전통적인 제재 중 심 접근이 큰 영향을 미치지 못했던 영역에서도 효과성을 더하여 줄 수 있음을 제언 하였고, 마지막에서는 본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구에 대해 논의하였다.
