This study aims to secure the identity of bodybuilding by analyzing it from the history of bodybuilding to the present and suggest the direction for bodybuilding in the future. To achieve that goal, three measures were proposed, which are as follows. First, it is to prepare a system that can qualify as a bodybuilding player. Players who participate in all competitions need education and effort to have the minimum qualifications. Second, it is a transition to performing arts. Bodybuilding is a form of competition, and if the return to sports is not easy, it will be an option to consider its position as a performing art. Third, it is a return to the essence of physical education programs. Physical education is an educational activity, not a competition, and through bodybuilding, educational outcomes can be achieved that cultivate not only physical health but also factors such as moderation and patience. Paying attention to this, it will be necessary to think about the direction of focusing on education rather than competition. Through these discussions, the identity of bodybuilding can be secured, helping to determine what direction to take in the future.

이 연구는 보디빌딩의 역사에서부터 현재에 이르기까지를 분석하여 보디빌딩의 정체성을 확보하고 향후 보디빌 딩이 나아가는 방향을 제시하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 그러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 3가지 방안을 제시하였는데, 그것은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 보디빌딩 선수로서의 자격을 갖출 수 있는 제도 마련이다. 모든 대회에 나가는 선수들은 최소한의 자격을 갖추기 위한 교육과 노력이 필요하다. 둘째, 공연예술로의 전환이다. 보디빌딩은 경쟁의 형태를 띈 공연예술인데, 스포츠로의 회귀가 녹녹치 않다면 공연예술로의 자리매김도 생각해볼 필요가 있는 선택지일 것이다. 셋째, 체육 프로그램 으로의 본질 회귀이다. 체육은 경쟁이 아닌 교육활동인데, 보디빌딩을 통해 신체적 건강뿐만 아니라 절제와 인내 등의 요소까지 함양하는 교육적 성과를 달성할 수 있다. 이에 주목하여 경쟁보다는 교육에 초점을 맞추는 방향도 생각해볼 필요 가 있을 것이다. 이러한 논의를 통해 보디빌딩의 정체성을 확보하여, 향후 어떠한 방향으로 나아갈지 결정하는 데 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다.
