Recently, Lee Won-gil, a senior Korean-Chinese writer, showed off his old hand and published a novel “Two Brothers of the Translator” with 700,000 letters. This work is a masterpiece that focusing on the “Tonghua 2.3 incident”, revealed the process of establishing a people's government in the South Manchurian and purging the remaining forces of Japanese Kwantung Army, the Kuomintang, and bandits in the region. While there are a few artistic novels about the immigration history, settlement history, and struggle history of the Korean people centered on “the East Manchurian”, such as Kim Hak-cheol's “Say the Haerang River”, Lee Geun-jeon's “The Age of Suffering”, Choi Hong-il's “Tuman River in Tears”, and “Ryongjeongbyulgok”, Conversely, there are rare artistic novels about the immigration history, settlement history, and struggle history of the Korean people in the South Manchurian. In this sense, it can be said that Lee Won-gil's “Two Brothers of the Translator” filled a large gap. In particular, it showed the potential of Korean-Chinese novel literature through its vast scale that encompasses East Asian modern and contemporary times, the creation of various characters centered on Go Kyung-cheol and Go Kyung-sik, rich imagination and use of various novel techniques, and rich novel language.

최근 조선족의 원로작가 리원길이 노익장을 과시해 장장 70만 자에 달하는 장편소설『역관집 두 형제 』를 펴냈다. 이 작품은 ‘통화2.3사건’을 중심으로 남만지역(南滿地域)에 인민정권을 세우고 일본 관동군 잔여세력과 국민당 그리고 이 지역의 토비들을 숙청하는 과정을 사시(史詩)적인 화폭으로 펼쳐 보인 대작이다. 김학철의 『해란강아 말하라』, 『리근전의 󰡔고난의 년대』, 『최홍일의 󰡔눈물 젖은 두만강』, 󰡔『룡정별곡』과 같이 ‘동만지역’을 중심으로 하는 우리민족의 이민사, 정착사와 투쟁사를 예술화한 장편소설은 적지 않은데 반해 남만지역 우리민족의 이민사, 정착사와 투쟁사를 예술화한 장편소설은 적은 편이다. 이런 의미에서 볼 때 리원길의 『역관집 두 형제』는 하나의 큰 공백을 메운 작품이라고 할 수 있다. 특히 동아시아 근, 현대를 아우르는 방대한 스케일, 고경철과 고경식을 중심으로 하는 다양한 인물성격의 창조, 풍부한 상상력과 다양한 소설기법의 활용 그리고 풍부한 소설적 언어를 통해 조선족소설문학의 저력을 유감없이 보여주었다.
