Identifying the types of paints in artworks with uncertain painting materials is very important in conservation science and art history. However, it is difficult to distinguish the type of paint diluted in a solvent with the naked eye because the diluted paint lost its characteristic texture and gloss. Accordingly, an analysis method that can interpret the type of paint is being studied, and in particular, a non-destructive analysis method that can be analyzed without sampling is required. This study attempted to supplement the limitations of the existing artwork analysis method by examining the applicability of ER-FT-IR, a non-destructive and non-contact analysis method. As a result of t he analysis, i t was possible to d istingu ish between oil p aint a nd a crylic p aint t hrou gh a carbonyl band with high detection sensitivity. In the case of watercolors and gouache paints which use the same binding medium, it was possible to distinguish them by comparing the detection intensity of e xtender in ATR mode, b u t it w as d ifficult to c ompare the d etection intensity o f extender o f the two paints as the overall detection intensity decreased in ER mode. Therefore, it is recommended that cross-analysis through microscopic observation and XRF analysis is necessary when analyzing artworks.

표현기법이 불문명한 회화작품에서 물감 종류를 규명하는 것은 보존과학, 미술사적으로 중요한 정보가 된다. 하지만 용제에 희석된 물감은 특유의 질감과 광택이 감소하여 육안으로 그 종류를 구분하기 어렵다. 이에 물감의 종류를 해석할 수 있는 분석법이 연구되고 있으며, 특히 시료 채취 없이 분석이 가능한 비파괴 분석법이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 비파괴, 비접촉 분석법인 ER-FT-IR의 적용 가능성을 검토하여, 기존 회화작품의 재료 해석 한계를 보완 하고자 하였다. 분석결과, 검출감도가 높은 carbonyl band를 통해 유화물감과 아크릴물감을 구 분할 수 있었다. 동일한 전색제가 사용되는 수채화물감과 과슈물감의 경우 ATR 방식에서는 체질안료의 검출강도를 비교하여 구분할 수 있었으나, ER 방식에서는 전체적인 검출강도가 하락하면서 두 물감의 체질안료 검출강도를 비교하기가 어려웠다. 따라서 실제 작품 분석 시에 는 현미경 관찰, XRF 분석 등을 통한 교차분석이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.
