The purpose of this study is to analyze bio R&D themes conducted in the Incheon region and propose policy implications for fostering a healthy bio-industrial ecosystem within the area. In order to achieve this, we utilized topic modeling, a text mining technique, to analyze the trends and themes of bio-related research topics in Incheon, based on data from 3,617 national R&D projects carried out from 2013 to 2022. The analysis identified nine major research topics, revealing a gradual increase in the number of research projects in most topics, indicating active research in the bio sector. The distribution of major participating institutions showed that universities primarily conducted basic research, while the industry predominantly engaged in applied and commercialization research. These findings indicate that Incheon's bioindustry exhibits diverse characteristics based on innovation institutions, industrial structure, geographical features, and the nature of research projects. Moreover, Incheon demonstrates significant potential in various sectors of the bioindustry, beyond merely serving as a production base for biopharmaceuticals. Therefore, the advancement of Incheon's bioindustry requires tailored strategies and sophisticated policy formulation that reflect regional characteristics.

본 연구의 목적은 인천 지역에서 수행된 바이오 연구개발 테마를 분석하여 지역 내 건전한 바이오산업 생태계 조성을 위한 정책적 시사점을 제시하는 데 있다. 코로나19 팬데믹과 디지털 전환으로 급격히 변화하는 바이오산업의 패러다임 속에서, 인천 지역만의 차별화된 전략이 필요한 시점이다. 이에 따라 2013년부터 2022년까지 수행된 3,617개의 국가연구개발 과제 데이터를 기반으로 텍스트 마이닝 기법 중 하나인 토픽모델링을 사용하여 인천 지역의 바이오 관련 연구 주제와 그 변화 추이를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 총 9개의 주요 연구 토픽이 도출되었으며, 대부분의 토픽에서 연구 과제 수가 점진적으로 증가하여 바이오 분야의 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있음을 확인하였다. 각 토픽별 주요 참여 기관들의 비율은 기초연구는 대학이, 실용화 및 사업화 연구는 산업계에서 주로 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과, 인천의 바이오산업은 혁신기관, 산업구조, 지리적 특성, 그리고 연구과제의 성격에 따른 다양한 특성을 보여주고 있었다. 또한, 인천은 단순히 바이오 의약품 생산기지로서의 역할에 그치지 않고, 바이오산업의 다양한 분야에서도 상당한 잠재력을 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났 다. 따라서 인천의 바이오산업 발전을 위해서는 지역 특성을 반영한 맞춤형 전략과 정교한 정책 수립이 요구된다.
