It is not easy to reconcile with neighboring countries with experiences of war or domination and seek future-oriented cooperative relationships when looking back on the past human history. In this regard, Germany deserves to be evaluated as an exemplary case of overcoming the unfortunate past and establishing a peaceful relationship with neighboring countries France and Poland, which are intertwined with long historical confrontation and war experiences. The process of textbook discussion between Germany and France, and Germany and Finland before compiling a joint history textbook, the process of consulting history textbooks between Korea and Japan, and the activities of the Korea-Japan Joint History Research Committee were examined in this article. And based on this, I tried to predict the possibility of a joint history textbook between Korea and Japan. Today's situation seems difficult to publish a joint East Asian history textbook, but the German-French Joint History Textbook in 2006 was the result of about 70 years of consultation between Germany and France from the mid-1930s, and the German-Polish Joint History Textbook, published in 2016 as a result of the German-Polish textbook consultation, has many implications for us. This is because only about 40 years have passed since the Japanese textbook crisis in 1982. Just as European integration, a common goal of Europeans, was linked to the publication of the German-French, German-Polish joint history textbook, East Asian countries, including Korea, China and Japan, need cooperation between countries to realize regional communities for friendly cooperation and co-prosperity in the 21st century Asia-Pacific era (as a goal through joint efforts of East Asian countries), and history dialogue between countries and compilation of joint history textbooks could serve as a necessary condition.

지난 인류의 역사를 돌이켜 보면, 전쟁이나 피지배 경험을 가진 주변 국과 화해하고 미래지향적인 협력관계를 모색하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아 니다. 그런 점에서 독일은 오랜 역사적 대립과 전쟁경험으로 얽힌 이웃 나라인 프랑스 및 폴란드와 불행한 과거를 극복하고 평화적인 관계를 수립해나가고 있는 모범사례로 평가할 만하다. 이 글에서는 독일과 프 랑스, 독일과 폴란드가 공동의 역사교과서를 편찬하기까지 어떠한 교 과서 협의의 과정을 거쳐야 했는가, 한국과 일본의 역사교고과서 협의 과정, 한일 공동역사연구위원회의 활동 등을 고찰하였다. 그리고 이를 토대로 한일 공동역사교과서의 가능성을 전망해 보고자 하였다. 오늘날의 상황은 동아시아 공동 역사교과서가 지난한 것처럼 보이지 만，독일과 프랑스가 1930년대 중반부터 약 70년의 협의 결과 2006년 〈독일-프랑스 공동 역사교과서〉의 결실을 보았다는 점，그리고 1972년부터 지속적으로 추친되어 온 독일-폴란드 교과서협의 결과 2016년 발간된〈독일-폴란드 공동 역사교과서〉는 우리에게 시사하는 바가 많다. 동아시아의 역사교과서 문제는 1982년 일본 교과서 파동 이 후 아직 40년 정도 밖에 경과하지 않았기 때문이다. 독일-프랑스, 독일-폴란드 공동역사교과서의 출간의 이면에는 유럽 인들의 공동 목표인 유럽통합이 맞물려 있었던 것처럼, 한중일을 비롯 한 동아시아 국가들은 이른바 21세기 아시아-태평양 시대의 우호협력 과 공동번영을 위한 지역공동체 실현(동아시아 국가들의 공동의 노력을 통한 지향점으로서)을 위한 국가 간의 협력이 필요하며 국가 상호 간 의 역사 대화, 그리고 공동역사교과서 편찬은 그 필요조건으로 작용할 수 있을 것이다.
