The Flora of Limestone Area, Mt. Jabyeong

The purpose of this study is to elucidate the distribution of vascular plants in limestone area Mt. Jabyeong. A total of 7 field surveys were conducted from April to September 2021. The vascular plants in this area were recorded as 381 taxa; 81 families, 237 genera, 334 species, 10 subspecies, 35 varieties and 2 forma. The rare plants were 17 taxa; 1 taxa as endangered species such as Daphne pseudomezereum var. koreana, 9 taxa as vulnerable species such as Gymnospermium microrrhynchum and Paeonia japonica, 6 taxa as least concerned species such as Anemone koraiensis and Rodgersia podophylla, and 1 taxa as data deficient species such as Adenophora grandiflora. The endemic plants were 21 taxa such as Lysimachia coreana, Salvia chanryoenica, Iris odaesanensis and so forth, and 5.4% of 392 taxa of Korean endemic plants. The naturalized plants were 14 taxa including Rumex crispus, Trifolium repens and so forth, and the percentages of the naturalized index and urbanization index were 3.4% and 4.7%, respectively. The specific plants by floristic region were 102 taxa; 2 taxa of grade Ⅴ, 16 taxa of grade Ⅳ, 26 taxa of grade Ⅲ, 34 taxa of grade Ⅱ, 24 taxa of grade Ⅰ. Calciphilous plants amounted to 12 taxa, specifically 1 taxa of calciphilous indicator plants, 2 taxa of superlative most calciphilous plants, and 9 taxa of comparative more calciphilous plants. The study results can be used as the reference for the preparation of biodiversity conservation and the establishment of management measures for restoration of damaged limestone areas.
