The everyday practices of quotation in korean journalism prove the fact that korean newspapers try to be ‘truthful’ in reporting. On the contrary quotations in newspaper strength the ideology of journalistic objectivism. Through quotations the korean newspapers decontexturalize and recontextualize the political topography in Korea. This thesis studied the ‘Kang Jeonggu case’ with ① the formal characteristics of quotations ② the macrostructure of the relationships between original and cited texts ③ the argumentation processes of newspaper texts. The results were follows: the korean newspapers made full uses of the indirect, anonymous and ambiguous quotation such as ‘academic world’ or ‘the conservative force.’ In macrostructure and argumentation analysis the Chosunilbo depended on the rule of omission, while the Hankyoreh relied upon synthesis rule. Regardless of the ideological spectrum distortions of the fact through quotation were a general practice of the korean newspapers.

신문기사에 매일 등장하는 ‘인용’은 사실성을 입증해주는 기제로 사용되기도 하지만, 오히려 ‘사실적’이라는 외관으로 인해 왜곡을 초래할 가능성도 있다. 오늘날 신문의 정치권력화가 문제시되고 있는 상황에서 언론의 인용이 정치적 지형을 탈맥락화시키고, 언론의 관점에서 재맥락화하기 위한 수단으로 광범위하게 활용되고 있다는 것이다. 이를 분석하기 위해 이 논문은 ‘강정구 사건’보도를 통해 ① 인용문의 형태적 측면과 ② 원담화와 인용문의 관계 및 ③ 논증의 과정을 분석하였다. 분석결과 유형면에서 우리 언론은 발화자의 내용을 완전히 나타내지 않는다거나, 간접 인용 형식에 큰따옴표만을 붙인 경우가 상당수 존재했다. 출처를 명확히 드러내지 않고, 익명으로 처리한 경우 나아가 ‘학계’, ‘보수단체’ 등과 같은 표현으로 출처를 모호하게 제시한 경우도 있었다.
