Understanding of previous research is crucial to identify research gaps and develop robust conservation strategies. As a part of the effort, in our study, we examined the trend of leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) research in South Korea and across the globe through social network analysis which helps to develop research and conservation plans of leopard cats, designated in the second class of Korean endangered wildlife list. We analyzed keywords which authors selected in peer-reviewed papers published in English or Korean between 1950 and 2017. There were 13 papers published in Korean journals since 2005 while 144 papers have been published internationally since 1952. Papers on leopard cats started increasing from 2010 in Korea and 2000 internationally. Although the sample size is not large, papers covered various study areas including evolution, genetics, ecology, development and veterinary science. Except for its English and scientific name, in overall, Felidae, Iriomote cat, and camera trap showed high frequency. In Korea, however, Geographic Information System(GIS) frequently appeared. The network analysis result also showed that leopard cat research was actively conducted in Southeast Asia in conjugation with studying other carnivores using the camera traps. Our research confirms that social network analysis is a useful tool to understand the research trend and gaps.
