This study was designed to examine Taekwondo as a communication medium by utilizing Luhmann social system theory. Taekwondo as a communication medium is a form (consequence) acquired through drawing the boundary of system/environment and re-entry and at the same time, it is an unprobable fact and a meaning that is given the‘Order from noise’. Taekwondo as a communication medium is observed by abstractly explicable functional systems and utilized as a communication theme and plays the following functions and roles. First, Taekwondo functions as a communication medium organizing, remembering, and selecting. Second, it can be seen that Taekwondo as a communication medium plays a role as a structural connection medium that connects the system and the system while performing a process function that alleviates uncertainty and gives certainty to proceed communication.

본 연구는 루만의 사회적 체계이론을 활용하여 소통매체로서 태권도 에 대해 살펴보기 위해 설계되었다. 소통매체로서 태권도는 체계/환경의 경계 긋기와 재진입을 통해 획득된 형식(결과물)인 동시에 비개연적 사 실이자, ‘잡음으로부터 질서’를 부여받은 의미이다. 소통매체로서 태 권도는 추상적으로 설명 가능한 기능체계들의 의해 관찰되고 소통주제 로 활용되어지며 다음과 같은 기능과 역할을 한다. 첫째, 소통매체로서 태권도는 정리, 기억, 선택 기능을 한다. 둘째, 소통매체로서 태권도는 불확실성을 완화하고 확실성을 부여받아 소통을 진행하게 만들어 주는 과정기능을 수행하는 동시에 체계와 체계를 연결시켜주는 구조적 접속 (연동) 매체로서 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있다.
