Wandering is a gaze toward the outside of the well-structured net of everyday life. From the perspective of modern daily life, wandering and travel are acts and poetic practices that play the most critical role. In the light of all the zooms, nomadism provides a new perspective on the value of mobility and movement. Nomadism criticizes the value of modern identity and contributes to reconsidering the finiteness of life. In this sense, nomadism internalizes postmodernism, but it is highly expandable in that it practically advocates the complexity and diversity of everyday life. Hwang Donggyu’s poems in the 1990s show a new aspect of the ontological horizon that he had long pursued. It is to interpret the value of wandering from the perspective of modernity and reach a way of accepting the finiteness of life. The two ways of thinking about ‘outside’ are the process of reflecting on modern daily life and purging the meaning of death. This is the characteristic of Hwang Donggyu’s poetry in the 1990s and one of the poetic thoughts he opened up.
