This paper first focuses on analyzing the meaning of the Anthropocene to understand the structural and systemic causes of climate change. Next, it presents the ethical challenges of responding to climate change as a consequence of the Anthropocene and carbon civilization. The main task of so-called ‘climate ethics’ is to first and foremost refute skepticism about climate change and the duty to mitigate it, followed by a transformation of our ethical consciousness. However, in the era of climate change, the question of good and evil, or right and wrong, must be considered as a matter of intergenerational justice, relevant not only to present human beings but also to future generations. Additionally, it should not primarily concern the interests of the community within the nation-state level but rather focus on global justice, preparing response strategies and establishing “common and differentiated responsibilities” through international agreements at the transnational level.

이 글은 먼저, ‘인류세’(Anthropocene)의 의미를 철학적으로 분석하고 이를 통해 기후변 화의 구조적 및 체계적 원인을 이해하는 데 집중한다. 다음으로, 인류세와 탄소 문명의 결 과로 나타난 기후변화에 대응하기 위한 윤리학의 과제를 제시한다. 이른바 ‘기후윤리 학’(Climate Ethics)의 주된 과제는 무엇보다 기후변화와 기후변화 완화 의무에 대한 회의 주의를 논박하는 것과 기존에 견지해온 우리의 윤리적 의식의 전환을 요청하는 것이다. 특히 기존의 윤리관은 현재 우리 곁에 살아있는 사람들 간의 관계에 배타적으로 치중해 있었 다. 그러나 기후변화 시대에 옳고 그름의 문제는 지금 현재 살아있는 인류와만 관계하는 게 아니라 미래 세대와도 관련된 문제, 즉 ‘세대 간 정의’(Intergenerational Justice)의 문 제로 고려되어야 한다. 또한 그것은 민족 국가 단위의 공동체 내부의 이익을 우선적으로 고려하는 것이 아니라 초국가적 단위에서, 즉 전지구적 차원에서 국제협약을 통해 대응전 략과 ‘공동의 차별화된 책임원칙’을 마련해야 하는 ‘전지구적 정의’(International Justice) 의 문제로 간주되어야 한다.
