This paper focuses on the “Huayan Siji”, a product of Huayan Buddhism scholarship, to examine the Zen perspectives of Jingguan, Yeondam, and Inak. The late Joseon Dynasty of the 17th and 18th centuries witnessed what can be considered the golden age of Huayan studies. The reprinting of the “Gaheung Edition of the Avatamsaka Sutra Commentary” had a significant impact on Huayan scholars in Joseon. At that time, various Huayan masters, including Yeondam and Inak, left commentaries, known as “private records”, while studying the Avatamsaka Sutra, one of the pivotal stages in the Buddhist practice process, and consulted the “Gaheung Edition of the Avatamsaka Sutra Commentary”. These private records were used to correct or augment sections of the “Gaheung Edition of the Avatamsaka Sutra Commentary”, to find and quote historical precedents, or to present the viewpoints of esteemed masters from the past. Additionally, they were utilized to assert their own arguments actively. Meanwhile, this paper focuses on the concepts of “Non-Thought” (非念) and “Detachment from Thought” (離念) as presented in the introduction to “The Ten Bodhisattva Grounds” section of the “Huayan Siji”. It investigates the arguments put forth by Jingguan and the Huayan masters of Joseon concerning the Southern and Northern schools of thought. Furthermore, it aims to identify their similarities and differences to explore their perspectives on Zen Buddhism.

본고는 화엄교학 산물인 『華嚴私記』에 초점을 맞추어 징관과 연담 및 인악의 禪宗觀 에 대하여 고찰한 것이다. 17∼18세기 조선 후기는 ‘화엄학’의 전성시대라고 할 수 있다. 가흥대장경본 『화엄경수소연의초』가 복간되면서 조선의 화엄학자들에게 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 당시 연담과 인악 등 여러 화엄종장들은 불교 이력과정 가운데 하나인 『화엄경』을 연구할 때, 『화엄경수소연의초』를 보면서 ‘私記’라는 주석서를 남기게 된다. 사기는 『화엄경수소연의초』를 보면서, 오류가 있는 부분을 수정보완할 필요성이 있을 때, 문헌적 전거를 찾아 원용하거나 일부 인용할 필요가 있을 때, 혹은 지난 선배강백들의 의견을 제시할 때 사용하였다. 또한 자신의 주장을 적극적으로 개진할 때 사용하기도 하였다. 한편, 본고는 『화엄사기』 가운데 ｢십지품｣ 서설 부분에 보이는 ‘非念과 離念’을 중점적으로 연구하였다. 여기서 南宗과 北宗에 관하여 징관과 조선의 화엄종장들이 각기어떤 주장을 하고 있는 지에 대하여 살펴보았다. 뿐만 아니라 그들의 동이점을 파악하고이를 통하여 선종관을 살펴보고자 한 것이다.
