The battle in the Daejeon distict that took place on July 19, 1950, has been evaluated as the battle during the Korean War where the US 24th Division, which was the first to be deployed on the Korean Peninsula, was unilaterally defeated by the North Army. However, this study reevaluates this battle, known for the unilateral defeat of the US forces, from the perspective of a delaying battle that held back the North Army for about two weeks, starting with the Jukmiryeong battle that took place on July 5, 1950. North Korea's invasion plan was planned in four stages. During this, the 2nd and 3rd phase of the plan was set to maneuver approximately 180km in 14 days, from July 3, after breaking through the Han River defense line, to the Daejeon-Seonsan line. However, it took 17 days until the evening of July 20 when Daejeon was captured, during which the severely outnumbered forces delayed the North Army. As a result, precious time was secured for the reinforcement of the 25th Division, the 1st Marine Division, and the establishment of the Nakdong River defense line. Therefore, the battle in the Daejeon District should be reevaluated in the context of a delaying defense operation that took place over 16 days, not just a battle that occurred on July 20.
