This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of Japanese travel and to propose policy agenda to promote their visit to South Korea. First it analyzed the behavior of Japanese tourists to South Korea before and after COVID-19. Second, it analyzed the characteristics Japanese travel to South Korea, comparing with their outbound travel. Third, it surveyed Japanese opinions regarding to visit local area of South Korea. This study proposed policy recommendation derived from the analysis to promote Japanese travel to South Korea; that is to broaden marketing target of Japanese tourist, to encourage the visit to local area, to create local travel experience expanding and beyond K-culture, to improve tourism preparedness such as seamless travel, attractive accommodation.

이 연구는 국제관광 재개가 본격화되는 가운데, 일본인 방한여행의 주요 동향을 분석하고, 향후 일본 인의 방한여행 활성화를 도모하기 위한 정책과제를 도출하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 구체적으로 첫째, 일본 인 방한여행 행태를 분석한 결과, 방한여행객 평균보다 체류 일정이 짧고 소비지출이 낮고, 재방문객은 많으 나 수도권 외 지방을 방문하는 비중은 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 일본인 해외여행 특성과 방한여행의 특성 을 비교 분석한 결과, 방한여행 시장이 특정 시장에 집중되어 있고, 여행 활동도 지역여행 유인요인이 상대적 으로 약한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 일본인을 대상으로 방한여행 시 지방방문에 대한 의견을 조사한 결과 도보 여행이나 K-컬처 향유, 자연지향 활동에 대한 수요가 높게 나타났다. 이 연구는 일본인의 방한여행 활성화 를 위해 방한시장의 외연 확대, 지역방문 확대, 매력적인 지역관광 상품 조성, 관광 수용태세 전반의 개선이 필요하다는 점을 제안하였다.
