This paper examines the implications of the motifs of 'tears' and 'crying' frequently found in Yoon Joong-ho's text, as they serve as expressions of emotions. Shedding tears and crying are movements of emotions. These emotions are bodily changes that occur after recognizing the objects. Therefore, this paper analyzes the objects depicted by Yoon Joong-ho in order to discover the reality of these emotions. The consistently addressed objects in Yoon Joong-ho's text can be summed up in one word, ‘displaced people’. The term ‘displaced people’ encompasses both voluntary and involuntary migrants who have lost or left their hometown, including both exiles who have lost their homeland and migrants who have left their hometown for various reasons. The lives of those who left their hometowns and settled in the city are depicted in great pain. The consistent focus of Yoon Joong-ho‘s perspective on the displaced people indicates that his thematic consciousness is being generated from the societal underdogs. A notable aspect is the overlapping imagery of ’rain’ in depicting these displaced people. Rain is an image that plays a key role in expressing their sorrow remarkably in connection with the lives of displaced people. Yoon Joong-ho reveals his emotions through tears and crying after seeing the world or the objects. The attributes of the objects seen by Yoon Joong-ho determine the implications of tears or crying shed by Yoon Joong-ho. Tears are both shed by Yoon Joong-ho and by the objects whom Yoon Joong-ho saw and called. Similarly, crying is both an expression by Yoon Joong-ho himself and a portrayal of the subjects captured by Yoon Joong-ho crying. Tears and crying at this time are expressed in a way of empathy or emotional assimilation and act as a key element that specifically and clearly shows the state of Yoon Joong-ho's emotional assimilation with the objects, that is, the attitude of sympathy.

본고는 윤중호의 텍스트에서 빈번하게 발견되는 ‘눈물’과 ‘울음’이라는 시어 가 감정을 드러내는 시어라는 점에 주목하여 이 시어의 함의를 구명한 것이다. 눈물을 흘리고 운다는 것은 감정의 움직임이다. 이 감정은 대상을 인지한 후에 일어나는 신체의 변화이다. 그래서 본고는 이 감정의 실체를 발견하기 위하여 먼저 윤중호가 목도한 대상을 분석하였다. 윤중호가 텍스트에서 일관되게 호명하는 대상은 한마디로 고향상실자들이다. 고향을 상실한 실향민이거나 자의든 타의든 고향을 떠난 탈향민 을 포괄하는 개념이다. 고향을 떠나 도시에 정착한 이들의 삶은 매우 고통스럽 게 그려진다. 윤중호의 시선이 일관되게 고향상실자들을 향해 있다는 것은 그가 지향하는 주제 의식이 사회적 약자에게서 생성되고 있음을 방증하는 것이다. 특 기할 만한 점은 이 고향상실자들을 묘사하는 데 ‘비’라는 이미지가 중첩되어 있 다는 점이다. 비는 고향을 상실한 이들의 삶과 결합하여 고향상실자들의 비애를 전경화하는 데 핵심적으로 작동하는 이미지로 기능한다. 윤중호가 눈물과 울음을 통해 감정을 드러내는 것은 세계 혹은 대상을 목도한 이후이다. 윤중호가 목도한 대상의 속성은 윤중호가 흘리는 눈물이나 울음의 함의 를 결정한다. 눈물은 윤중호가 흘리는 것이기도 하고 윤중호가 목도하고 호명한 대상이 흘리는 것이기도 하다. 울음도 마찬가지로 윤중호가 우는 것이기도 하고 윤중호가 포착한 대상이 우는 것이기도 하다. 이때의 눈물과 울음은 감정이입이나 감정 동화의 방식으로 현출되어 윤중호가 지닌 대상과의 감정적 동화 상태, 즉 동병상련의 태도를 구체적이고 명백하게 보여주는 핵심적 요소로 작동한다.
